MANCHESTER 17 MCC Ltd DEAD EASY TRIAL BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 28th AUGUST 2017 HEATON HOUSE FARM, RUSHTON SPENCER
REPORT: Roger Townsend
A bumper entry of 98 riders contested the latest Dead Easy Trial held on Bank Holiday Monday at Heaton House Farm, between Leek and Macclesfield. The sun shone, a full complement of Observers, and all was set fair for a good day. The course was four laps of ten sections set in three groups around the farm. Different to the last trial here in February, there was no mud. The first three sections were alongside the car parking field and were tight turns around trees, all on level ground. A large rock between two trees on the second section got moved after a few bikes and the section became very easy. Sections four and five were down in the wood, and section five became a mark stealer on the Harder route as riders had to negotiate a fallen tree after climbing a sharp bank. The remaining sections were grassy bank climbs, drops, and turns with an artificial concrete step thrown in for good measure, at the far end of the farm. There were some quality riders amongst the entry and this reflected in eleven riders going clean on the harder route. As ever at these trials there was a varied mix of bikes. Amongst the usual array of modern bikes, Garry Shaw was on a very nice Triumph twin, Chris Bacon on a rigid C10 BSA and Peter Cottrell on a rorty 630cc Norton. Toby Eyre’s Cub has a history. Originally owned by his late grandfather Len Eyre, the bike passed to his late uncle Norman Eyre, who won the 1961 Victory Trial on it. After a period of years the bike was restored by Toby’s dad Ken Eyre and now has occasional outings in the hands of Toby. There were three clean rides on the Easy Route, with youngster Isaac Tilson being one of them on his Oset. Despite the large entry, all was wrapped up by three pm, with everyone saying they had really enjoyed themselves. Thanks to all who helped run the trial, and a reminder that the Club are continuing their policy for at least the rest of this year of giving free rides to Youth riders.
