Free School Footballs Programme

FREE SCHOOL FOOTBALLS PROGRAMME

INTRODUCTION

The GSP has designed a program to develop sports in schools in the Brong Ahafo region. This program is a response to a major problem we have identified through our field observations.

We have identified that most schools in Brong Ahafo region lack sports kits and equipment. There is a strong desire amongst teachers to provide the kids with materials and equipment during their sport sessions, but due to a severe lack of funding and equipment it can be a struggle.

This problem has retarded the development of sports in schools in the region. We want to address this problem through this programme. Providing the schools with equipment will vastly improve their sessions and the Kids performances.

This programme will provide opportunities for the young ones to discover their sporting talents and deploy them effectively for the benefit of themselves and society.

DETAILS ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

“Kits 4 schools” is programme of the GSP to supply 2000 free footballs to all junior high schools in the 22 districts of the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. This proposal covers first 500 free footballs. Each school will receive 2 footballs (250 Junior high schools).

The free footballs will be distributed to all sports masters/instructors of the schools. GSP will monitor the schools to ensure the students have access to the balls during breaks to help them develop personal skills and also serve as a source of recreation

A follow up evaluation studies will be done to assess the effect of the programme on student’s performance and behaviour at school. Young men and women from the districts will be employed to monitor and evaluate the programme.

Funding for the programme is sourced responsibly from businesses which want to use sport development in schools to fulfill their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives.
