Wright State University Student Government Minutes February 18, 2014 Week # 6 I.Call to Order @ 7:06 pm II.Attendance a.Sukhmanjit Singh, Kyle Powell, JB Saul, Christine Ton, Gabriel Riegle, Zena Fadel, Lauren Ouwerkerk, Kaliah Ware, Anthony Hinojosa, Kayla Muncie, Megan Gillespie, Emily Bingham, Jennifer Benson, Megan Ater, Amanda Short, Erika Leitz, John Ellis, Jordan Young, Casey Babbitt, CEHS Proxy, Ryan Rushing, Elizabeth Mathews, Matthew Johnson, Megan Gray, Meridith Brackman, Jackie Kucrika, and Andrea Sackett b.Absent: Karli Lightner, Peyton Jones, Alexander Snyder, Amaha Sellassie, Fady Al-Banna, and Michelle Coale III.Approval of the Minutes a.Approved IV.Committee Reports a.Anthony Hinojosa (Academic Affairs): i.As of Friday (2/14/14), CONH admission policy was approved by the Undergraduate Academic Policy committee. i.New proposed policy will be sent to Faculty Senate for approval. ii.Next Friday will be the final approval of the 2nd start policy. b.Emily Bingham (Campus Culture): i.Assistant Director of Equity and Inclusion Search Committee i.Once 2 to 3 candidates are narrowed down, then Emily will let Student Government know as soon as possible. c.Sukhmanjit Singh (President): i.Campus Completion Committee: i.Combined sub-committee reports i.Mentoring program for advisors and students. ii.Career track for students i.To help push students to graduate in four years, by eliminating unnecessary classes students take. iii.Adequate Financial Aid i.Short term loans iv.Intrusive Advising i.Risk prevention programs V.Report Discussion a.none VI.Public Forum a.Spencer Brannon: i.By-Laws i.Hold off on voting to approve the By-Laws until all changes have been made. i.Very important that the By-Laws are completely done before voting. ii.Have been talking to students and agrees to drag the process on longer in order to make sure the By- Laws are complete (Matt Johnson, CoSM) iii.By-Laws will be posted online for members to look at and to make any final changes (Sukhmanjit Singh). iv.After Spring Break, By-Laws will be discussed later and hopefully voted on (Sukhmanjit Singh). v.By-Laws removed from Old Business (Sukhmanjit Singh). VII.Old Business a.none VIII.New Business a.Student Trustee Search Committee Nominations and Appointments (Ryan Rushing, COLA) i.Resolution 14-04 passed. i.Search committee will include: 1 Senate member, 1 Cabinet member, and 1 at-large Student Government member. ii.Chair of this committee will be the Vice President of Student Government, Kyle Powell. ii.If there are no nominations for committee members tonight, then Student Government will have till the 7th week of spring semester to nominate and appoint. ii.Ryan Rushing opens the floor for nominations: i.Nominations will be done Branch by Branch, starting with Senate and then Cabinet. i.If there are more than 1 nominations per branch, then will motion to vote. ii.CEHS proxy nominates Matt Johnson. i.Matt Johnson accepts. iii.Anthony Hinojosa nominates Emily Bingham. i.Emily Bingham accepts. iv.JB Saul nominates himself. i.JB Saul accepts. b.Spirit Initiative (Sukhmanjit Singh) i.Open forum: i.Found that students really like the Student Government logo (Emily Bingham) ii.Also had graduate students who liked the Student Government logo (Leo Mylabathula, Graduate). iii.WSU seal(Meredith Brackman, College of Business) i.Students have brought up that the WSU seal will look more prestigious. ii.Students would like to see the seal in the middle of campus, instead of by the front entrance to the Student Union, where people who don’t know about the seal could walk on it. 1.Also, too many people in Student Union front entrance way. iii.Research will be done on whether SG can use the WSU seal. iv.Examples of other university seals (i.e. Miami University and Findley State University). i.Findley State University: An arch, where only students who are graduating can walk under. v.Students tend to prefer the Rowdy Head (Sukhmanjit Singh). i.More school pride. vi.Official Wright State stamp used on transcripts as seal (Matt Johnson). vii.Possible use of seal on the Raiderthon Resolution (Ryan Rushing). ii.Matt Johnson motions to table signatures for initiative; Seconded by Casey Babbitt (School of Medicine). i.Motion Passed (In-favor: Unanimous) c.Resolution 14-07: A Resolution to Strengthen Wright State and Create an Associate Director of Government Affairs Position (Introduced by Spencer Brannon and Matt Johnson) i.Matt Johnson motions to table resolution. IX.Rowdy Bobblehead Award a.Emily Bingham to Megan Gillespie!! X.Advisor Reports a.Dan Abrahamowicz to Jordan Young (Athletics): i.Go Green Game this Friday at 10pm (WSU vs. Troy)! i.Military Appreciation night ii.Raider Spirit Rally next Tuesday! i.All SG members required to attend, since there will be NO meeting that night. XI.Announcements a.Raider Spirit Rally (Erika Leitz) i.Help with set-up i.Sign-up sheet passed around SG meeting for those who do not have class after 4-4:30 pm. i.Jobs will be assigned in shifts. ii.If have any questions or would still like to sign-up, please see Erika Leitz! ii.All SG members will go to the spirit rally together at 7pm! i.Booth (211) for SG  b.Live Streaming (Kyle Powell) i.Last two meetings were not recorded due to deliberations of words/private discussions not open to public, so therefore not on wsusg website. ii.Some feed (due to internet crash) from tonight’s meeting will be streamed in case students wish view tonight’s meeting. c.Zip Car contract was signed (Kyle Powell) i.2 new cars will be on campus. ii.Will largely benefit international students and students without cars. iii.Any questions, please contact Kyle Powell. d.Elect Her Panel (Emily Bingham) i.If participating, please make sure you have sent Emily Bingham your bio! ii.If any members would still like to join, it’s not too late!! Please contact Emily Bingham if still interested. e.Disability Awareness Event (Megan Gillespie, Disabilities) i.Event will be held March 12th! ii.Selling t-shirts for $10 (Logo: ‘We want to taco ‘bout it even if it’s nacho problem’) iii.Interested in buying a t-shirt? Contact Megan Gillespie! f.Interdisciplinary Health Counsel (Nick Christian) i.Purpose: To bring together student and faculty of multiple disciplines who are passionate about improving the delivery of healthcare. i.To open up communication and inform students about healthcare. ii.3 main areas: education, research and community outreach. ii.Counsel will consist of two students from each discipline and one faculty that will plan to serve the university at large. iii.Counsel plans to meet four times year, starting next month. iv.Open for questions: i.Policy initiatives or just research? (Leo Mylabathula) i.Open to explore different ideas (Nick Christian). ii.Forums to discuss to whole student body about healthcare? (Kyle Powell) i.Open to explore idea; trying to focus on professionally engaged students (Nick Christian). iii.How would you like Student Government to be a part of this? (Sukhmanjit Singh) i.Have SG push this initiative by informing students and getting them excited about this (Nick Christian). iv.College of Math and Science student’s involvement? (Matt Johnson) i.Would be decided by the counsel; hesitate with less committed people, such as undergrads (Nick Christian). v.Funding for IHC? (Anthony) i.No current funding, but currently talking to the Dean of Boonshoft School of Medicine (Nick Christian). i.Hoping that once the counsel becomes sustainable, then IHC will receive funding. v.Sukhmanjit Singh requests that Nick Christian send more information to Student Government, regarding the IHC, so that members will know what to say specifically to their constituencies. g.NO SG MEETING NEXT TUESDAY!! i.All will be attending Raider Spirit Rally @ the Nutter Center i.All SG members must attend event from at least 7-9pm!
