COE Faculty Assembly Meeting Minutes February 28, 2017 8:30 a.m. - BH 368
The meeting was called to order by Dr. K. Staples at 8:30 am.
The minutes from January 24, 2016 were approved.
Dr. Staples recognized Vititana Henneberg as the recipient of the 2016 University Support Staff Employee of the Year. Victiana received flowers and special thanks for all of her efforts and hard work in supporting the CIMA center within the College of Education.
I. Standing Committee Reports A. Academic Affairs – Dr. Warren White conducted approval of the following proposals: EDCEP 110 – Revised course description (Expedited) EDCEP 111 – Revised course description (Expedited EDCEP 109 – New course, Supplemental Instruction, one credit hour, graded Credit/No Credit, allowed to be taken without enrolling in EDCEP 111. Each proposed change and new course were approved. B. Faculty Affairs – Dr. Jessica Lane Excellence in Academic Advising C. Student Affairs – Dr. Andy Wefald Notices for student awards will be coming soon (middle of March) D. Diversity for Community – Dr. Robert Hachiya February 1st - Topeka High School Students (Diversity Program) attended Dr. Goodson's class. Sent six music students to Nepal. Kelly Briggs: military connected workshop-funded book prizes (standing room only!), looking to host eighth graders from Liberal, Kansas to explore campus. Working with Mac Benavides for recruitment. E. Technology Committee- Dr. Ann Knackendoffel: Poll meeting was held February 8th, on closed captioning for videos (quality online essential course). Cyndi will be hosting a walk-in class in iBooks.
II. Other Reports A. Faculty Senate – Dr. Jackie Spears President Myers says 2025 will be refreshed. Secondary major will be available for undergraduate and graduate students. Survey for constituent concerns. Online accessibility checker will be added to Canvas in 2017. Concern over fishing events. Furlough policy nearing end. Cannot cancel class if furloughed. Wichita State requested market based tuition, K-State will move forward with a similar request. B. Graduate Council- Dr. Dan Wilcox Ballot will be sent by email for nomination of new committee members. Establish definitions for different Graduate Assistants. C. EGSO - No Report D. Continuing Education – Rosemary Boggs Faculty are encouraged to participate in Global Campus professional development opportunities. There are conferences this spring - will be sending staff to six conferences. Health professionals, athletics, NEA-KSP conferences. 153 people enrolled, 1463 enrollments, 4228 credits. Total: 852 taking distance courses only. E. Education Council- Trina Harlow Big Brother Big Sisters was very successful. Open House is April 1st Students of the Semester based on leadership, service, and GPA. Dr. Randy Watson, Kansas Commissioner of Education, will be here February 28th. F. Center for Student and Professional Services – Dr. David Griffin One of our staff members has been accepted to publish in Continuing Higher Education G. Library - No Report

VI. Dean's Report – Dean Debbie Mercer (Report given by Dr. Linda Thurston) VII. One time reduction: 1.75%; VIII. Congratulations to four new tenured staff IX. March 3rd: Scopus training @ 11:00 am in 021 X. 13 proposals have gone out/will go out for external funding;
