11. LIST STUDENT PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES (EXIT SKILLS): (Objectives must define the exit skills required of students and include criteria identified in Items 12, 14, and 15 - critical thinking, essay writing, problem solving, written/verbal communications, computational skills, working with others, workplace needs, SCANS competencies, all aspects of the industry, etc.)(See SCANS/All Aspects of Industry Worksheet.) Students will be able to: 1. 1. Use an image-editing software program, working easily and proficiently with layers. 2. Use “best practices” that reduce risks of losing resolution and files, and saves space when working with multiple large-size graphic files. 3. Use the correct terminology when speaking of the elements and principles of two-dimensional composition. 4. Select from their own collection of source materials to create images that begin to indicate a personal style or direction. 5. Explain how value is used to create volume and space and utilize the Gray Mode to examine the value of their color choices and make corrections. 6. Identify the differences between pixel-based and vector-based shapes. 7. Use the Type feature of the software effectively in well-balanced compositions, in two ways: words as content and letters as design elements. 8. Use 2-D principles of composition to create well-balanced digital images, including mixed-media works. 9. Analyze the composition of master images. 10. Discuss how to use the computer in ways that make it a unique artist’s tool. 11. Critique the images of others in a positive, constructive manner.

12A. COURSE CONTENT: (List major topics in sequence; address objectives listed in #11 above. Degree applicable course must be taught at college level; see definition. List percent of time spent on each topic. Also, differ- entiate content of each level, when levels are assigned.) Lecture and lab content are to be listed separately.

LECTURE CONTENT: List Percents

1. 1. Introduction to advanced software features: Effects and Styles, Layer Styles, Fill Layers, Drop Shadows 10% 2. Adjustment Layers: Levels, hue/saturation, brightness/contrast 5% 3. Advanced selection tools: Tolerance levels for background selection tool 5% 4. “Best practices” for working with multiple large size graphic files 1% 5. Vector-based shape tool 5% 6. Methods of working unique to the computer: Scaling machine, repetition of images, easy-to-make multiple drafts and studies, moving back and forth easily between gray scale and color to view value, collage made easy, what’s next? 10% 7. Creating well-balanced electronic pictures 40% 8. Mixed media: Inkjet print as the starting place; after traditional work is applied to print it can be photographed and scanned into computer for more work (a method of working where the evolution can continue on and on) 10% 9. Questions of copying and appropriation of other’s works 1% 10. Printing 8% 11. Scanning just about anything 5%
