1. Audio/Video Mixer

2. Record VCR

3. Audio Amplifier

4. VS4000

5. CD Player

This rack is on the right hand side of the teacher station. I will briefly discuss the function of each device: 1. The audio/video mixer sends certain transmissions to various places. It is possible using this device to have different things being shown on each TV and the big screen (e.g. Document Camera on 1st TV, VCR on big screen, Computer on 2nd TV). This device should be programmed ahead of time and should only be done by Mike unless you have been specifically trained to modify the settings. 2. The record VCR is for recording presentations. Whatever is showing on the big screen is what will be recorded by this VCR. Therefore, if you set up the mixer to show different things on each TV and big screen, only the big screen will be recorded. 3. The audio amplifier controls the audio for the room from each device. This device should not be changed by anyone. It is pre-programmed and set to the correct levels. 4. The VS4000 is the Codec used for 2 way audio/video conferencing or distance learning. This device is controlled via remote control. If you are scheduled to be in a class, the host (usually Region 18 or Midland College) will call our system. You do not have to do anything to connect the call. If you wish to teach a class, or host a meeting, you will need further training to place calls using this system. 5. The CD Player can be used to play CD’s in the room. Distance Learning Lab 1 – Auditorium Page 3 of 4

6. Presentation Switcher

7. Play VCR

8. DVD Player

This rack is located under the podium section of the teacher station. 6. The presentation switcher is what you will use most. It is used to change what is being viewed. I will discuss it in further detail later. 7. The play VCR is used for playing videocassettes as well as viewing cable TV. Make sure the power is on and you should see cable (if the switcher is set to vcr). You can change channels with the VCR. If you put in a tape and push play you will see whatever is on the tape. 8. The DVD player is used for playing DVD’s. Again, the switcher must be set to DVD to be able to view it.

These are the buttons available on the Presentation Switcher. You can see they are clearly labeled.

1. Computer (if you bring in a laptop and want to show something on it). 2. Camera. The camera is located on the back wall and there is a remote on the podium to move it and show any part of the room. It will also zoom. 3. VCR (to show videos or cable tv). 4. DVD 5. Document Camera (used as an overhead). NOTE: Do NOT write on the document camera screen. It is not a dry erase board. If you want to write, use paper or transparencies. 6. Distance Learning (whether taking a class or teaching). This button must be pushed to be able to see the far side (whomever you are connected to).

You can see from the picture that #6 is lit up. So currently distance learning is being shown. This is the other part of the presentation switcher. It is used to control the volume of what you are seeing as well as the wireless microphone. It does not control the volume of distance learning. That is controlled by the remote for the VS4000. If you push MAIN and turn the knob you will turn the volume up or down for everything. If you push VIDEO and turn the knob you will adjust the volume for whatever video is being shown (e.g. VCR, DVD, Computer). If you push MIC and turn the knob you will adjust the volume for the microphone. The LINE button is not used. If you push any of the 4 buttons for Audio Control and push SEL, it will mute or un-mute that selection.

The last thing I will mention is the lights. There are 4 presets (5 buttons in all) on each panel. They are all set the same. The top button is the brightest and the lights will get dimmer with each button you push. The bottom button is for off.
