Forensic Science Syllabus
In this Forensics class, students will be conducting an analysis of physical and biological evidence that could be found at the scene of a crime. Analytical thinking is used to solve hypothetical crimes, as well as mock crimes possibly involving other academic departments within our school. The Internet will be used for multiple purposes including research and class presentations. The purpose of this course to offer hands-on laboratory experience for students who are considering a career in forensic science.
Unit 1: Introduction to Forensics and the Crime Scene -Introduction to the Practice of Forensic Science -Evidence Collection, Criminal Evidence and the Crime Scene
Unit 2: Forensic Analysis -Fingerprints -Drugs and Toxicology -Hair and Fiber
Unit 3: Forensic Analysis Continued -Anthropology -Blood Typing -DNA Fingerprinting
Unit 4: Course Conclusion -Webquest: “Bones and the Badge” -Mock Crime Scene -Famous Criminal Cases Convicted by Forensic Science
All work in this course will be fully completed and corrected before a score can be entered in to the grade book. Students are expected to keep all work in a 3 ring binder that is organized and up-to-date.
