Program Application Fall 2015
Thank you for your interest in the Wind Energy Program here at the College of Southern Idaho. Our program is designed to provide the skills necessary for students to join the field of operations and maintenance of utility scale wind turbines.
Admission to this program is limited to a maximum of 20 students. The program begins only once per year during the Fall Semester and students should expect to participate Monday through Friday in both lecture and applied lab activities. Acceptance into this program is by instructor(s) permission only. We offer both a Wind Energy Technician Technical Certificate (TC) and Wind Energy Technician Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Requirements for both are listed in the CSI catalog which can be found online (www.csi.edu/catalog) or can be purchased in the Bookstore.
Acceptance Criteria
STEP 1 Apply for admission to the College of Southern Idaho. Depending on your goals, you should either select Wind Energy Technician TC or Wind Energy Technician (AAS) as your program of interest. STEP 2 Request copies of your official transcripts from your high school and/or college, (if transferring from another college and/or previous college experience). If you have completed more than one semester of college, you only need to send in your college transcripts. Transcripts can be mailed to: College of Southern Idaho Admissions and Records P.O. Box 1238 Twin Falls, Idaho 83303 STEP 3 Take the COMPASS test to determine Math, Reading and English competency/placement. You may also submit ACT scores in place of the COMPASS test. Prospective students need to place in English 101 and Math 123 level to be admitted into the Wind Energy Program, and must be eligible to do so no later than the conclusion of the Spring Semester. This requirement also may be met by completion of approved coursework from a regionally accredited college or university. STEP 4 Complete an Application for Financial Aid and scholarships, if applicable.
STEP 5 Complete the Wind Energy Program Application. The application must be submitted by 8/28/2015. All applications postmarked after this date will be ineligible for consideration for the Fall Semester classes. It is the student’s responsibility to furnish all required paperwork and to see that his/her file is complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applications will be processed as quickly as possible. Every application can expect to receive a response letter. Please do not contact us prior to the date as it will delay the application review process. Applicants may be placed on an alternate list and selected on a space available basis. Students that are not accepted and not selected into the Wind Energy Program will be notified by letter prior to the close of late registration. If not selected into the program, the student must initiate the application process the following Fall Semester to be considered for the class. These students will be considered along with all new applicants.

For full consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter and resume outlining related, industry specific work history, classes taken, degrees earned, and any other relevant information.

The Wind Energy Program has certain elements of physical activities that are mandatory. These activities include climbing a vertical ladder system three times consecutively, (Ladder height 30’ x 3), picking up an object that weighs 50lbs and carrying it 20ft, hanging in a full body harness, using mechanical advantage rope systems, working at heights, standing on hard surfaces and working in confined spaces. Please read each question and mark the appropriate answer.
