Response Text More local training opportunities near TN.

Offer a regional networking chapter with the one overall national AHIA association membership. I enjoy being an IIA member and attend several of the local IIA chapter association meetings and seminars, which allow me to network with other members in my area locally.

Use subject matter experts to present at the annual conference; and provide better tools for healthcare internal auditors, such as useful audit programs and other resources for researching audit topics.

Enhanced and more sophisticated repository of audit programs, audit tools and checklists, etc. similar to Protiviti's KnowledgeLeader but for healthcare.

Reduce the fee of seminar and the conference, so that more members are able to afford to go

AHIA does so many wonderful things and has helped me and my staff tremendously with a better understanding of the healthcare industry. I am constantly challenged with providing training opportunities to those staff that are fairly new to the healthcare field. The Annual Conference does provide training opportunities on introductory healthcare auditor skill sets but this is just one time a year and it seems like there could be more demand at different times of the year for this type of training.

Improve the resource library

Consider chapters in areas that do not have them currently.

More GAAP updates at the annual AHIA seminar using accounting firms to provide the information AHIA does a good job. We could benefit by having more discounts for multiple members from same organization and more local chapters even if by state. We need the training but it is very expensive to travel and training budgets are limited. I really like the library, publication and list serve - it is helpful. Introduce overseas chapters

Provide overseas members to participate /enroll in USA seminars

Hold a periodic conference call for CAEs and perhaps a separate periodic conference call for all auditors like the TechTalk, but for other audits (Financial, Operational, and Compliance).

Update the Audit Library with more audit tools

Hold an annual webinar training for new auditors to Healthcare and/or have new healthcare audit tools Provide for more information and current tools on the website.

I would love to have a regional group here in the mid-south (memphis) area; could use some help getting it started

Have more regional seminars/conferences to minimize travel costs or more webinars Offer additional roundtable discussions and free webinars with relevant topics.

Offer a Healthcare Internal Auditing Certification!!!

More sample audit programs and reports. More data mining training

Provide additional educational opportunities. There is the one conference and only a couple of regional seminars. The two regional seminars were almost the same time. There have been no webcasts since May or June.

I would like to see active state/local associations. We don't have an active state association in NC. If AHIA could provide support and assistance to help get one formed, that would be great.

Increase tools provided for members including white papers, benchmarking data, etc. provide more regional or local seminars also free webinars for members

More free webinars

Organize thought-sharing discussions either in person or on-line in which the organization and its members can discuss best practices.

Start a data base of programs/resources for auditors in the field.

Monthly free webinars up to an hour. The Big 4, Big Pharma and consultants should be able to provide fodder.

Continue the regional seminars as some members and non-members cannot afford or perhaps not allowed by their Administrators to attend national Conferences. AHIA was built on regional conferences which exploded the Organization's national growth in the earlier years. What goes around comes around. Keep it up- BUILD the Regions and they will COME......

I find the web site a little hard to find the tools I am looking for. For example, as a new auditor I went looking for audit tool examples and really did not find any to gleam insight into the development of ours.

Offer webinars. There hasn't been any available since I joined the association.

More regional activities.

Would like regional or local meetings or conference calls to facilitate networking with others that are geographically nearby.

Offer more free webinars.

Provide detailed information and networking for one per audit departments.

More online resources, references

More regional activity where travel costs will be minimized.

AHIA is providing great value.

More active in whitepapers and similar guidance. We need much more professional guidance that is specific to our industry. More assistance with employment opportunities and bigger discounts/free admission to events for members who lose their jobs.

Free webcasts (preferably for CPE credit) several times during the year.

For people who can't attend (budget limitations or conflicts), make the national and regional conferences available via webcasts (even if you need to charge a fee to cover the cost).

Make the handouts from the conferences available to ALL members.

Resource of various software products available and used by auditors and healthcare auditors. Allow members to add their comments and ratings.

Increase Networking time/opportunities at the annual conference.

Expand on relationship between internal auditing and compliance auditing - bring in more focus on compliance aspects.

Hold more low cost local meetings

Not sure; I will be retiring as my company closes its TRICARE contract. nothing at this time

No idea.

I don't think there is a regional or local chapter within 300 miles of me. It would be nice if there was. There is a local IIA chapter with monthly educational offerings/meetings. Since my workplace does not pay for the annual conference, I would appreciate opportunity for local AHIA events.

Keep on providing members with information and tools, as well as forum, to share ideas and learning.

Events are always in the summer during the height of the hurricane season. It would be nice if events could be earlier in the summer.

Maybe provide one day events in different locations.

The technical library and resources is a fantastic idea in principle. Most examples, however, seem very outdated. Refreshing this library could make it the great resource it has the potential to be. Also, I hear could things about the Tech Talk roundtables but it doesn't feel like there is much else offered in terms of online webinars available to members. The IIA offers at least one free monthly webinar to members and it would be great to have something similar that is focused on and relevant to the healthcare industry. Also, it seemed last year that there was going to be a Chicago-based Midwest regional seminar and then it seemed to never materialize. It would be great to have a yearly in-person opportunity for learning and networking available to different regions, developing a local presence. Also, with ever changing regulations, it would be nice to have a resource center that links to accounting guidance, healthcare regulations, etc.

Offer free CPE webinars as a benefit of membership. The IIA provides at least one complimentary member-only CPE webinars per month.

More regional based events

As members, be better informed of local and regional meetings and activities, if there are any.

I think AHIA is always improving and so at this point I don't have any suggestions. Make conferences available in a regional setting rather than a national setting, as issues are more regional than national. nothing that I can think of

Centrally manage the list serve. When a question is posed there are several responses indicating that they would like to receive the information also. I would expect that anything shared (for example tools, policies, etc) could be de-identified and posted on the website by AHIA for use by all. This would also keep the site content "fresh". What appears to be happening is members just respond to the individual and the general membership may not necessarily benefit.

I have never seen the AHIA journal, New perspectives, I would be interested in seeing it.

Update the audit tools on the website. It would be helpful a track at the national conferences was geared to auditing specifically to auditing departments or services and take-away work programs were made available.

I really like the roundtables. Maybe do more of them in regions. I loved that aspect of the conference, but this year and next it conflicts with my audit committee meeting and so I cannot attend. I would also like to have more advanced notice when these are so that I can plan appropriately.

Continue to expand the audit program and risk assessment library

Begin to walk down the path of appealing to the next generation. Getting younger individuals to volunteer and become more engaged in the organization. Seems like a bunch of us "old folks" make the key decisions.

Additional free webinars.

My biggest struggle is being an audit department of one, me. While I hope to expand, it would be great to have some more forums that focus on small audit shops and the challenges we face. My peers are a great source of knowledge, but hearing from those who have one or two individuals, like my department, helps me put things in perspective.

Offer more webinars

There are many Universities that have healthcare systems and AHIA doesn't really seem to address that. The conferences would be much better for those individuals if the educators were able to discuss things together. Many times our resources, direction, etc. are very different from the private and non education sector. offer more webinars

Provide more how to, guidance and other reference material to help me do a better job and/or stay on top of emerging healthcare matters and how internal audit can be, is or should be involved.

Develop social media connectivity among AHIA members based on their skills and experience.

Similarly to what the IIA offers, free monthly members-only webinars on hot healthcare audit topics would be nice. more on line webinars or other training activities at low or minimal cost

The expansion of webinars would be very beneficial.

None. Good job. Offer more webinars, especially for compliance auditors in healthcare, which are free or reasonably priced. A lot of compliance auditors in smaller hospitals don't have a very big budget so we have to pass on webinars/teleconferences that are not reasonably priced.

It would be helpful for me if I could search past listserve responses when I was researching a new topic. offer free 1 hour CPE webinars

More technical training resources-- example, work programs on specific subject matters.

More annual conferences in the south east USA more roundtables for non-leaders more healthcare specific audit resources

Need frequent Webcasts (CPE eligible) with relevant, important topics.

More training on nursing home related topics

Identify leading practices. For example, if one member identifies an issue in an audit, our web site should have the means to identify how other organizations are resolving that same issue. This will allow us to add more value through our audits.

Offer video or audio conferencing (i.e. webinar) in conjunction with the regional seminars for a fraction of the cost. If that is not possible, offer materials to members for a nominal price since attendees had to pay. The topics are great but when the conference is located far away, it makes it difficult to attend. Promote local committees

Create Subject Matter Experts

Breakout library and other tools by sector, such as, physicians, insurance, hospitals, home health, etc. Offer webinars.

Provide free new technology education - webinars, etc.

Not sure

Host the national and regional conferences not only live, but via webcast.

Allow members access to the conference material even if they did not attend.

More free webcasts (preferably for CPE credit) for relevant topics. The IIA, HFMA, ACFE and other professional organizations provide free webcasts, and for CPE's.

We all need to be more automated. I would like a resource list of software tools are being used by our peers, and with user comments/reviews regarding each.

There is no local chapter in NJ.

Monthly Webinars free to members like the IIA does.

I know that work is underway to improve the audit library and to assign subject matter leaders in certain areas. I think this will by a major improvement in the value offered to members.

Stop advocating for the IIA QA program has half of the membership and/or their employers do not appear interested The IIA QA program is improbably scoped for the small audit shop. Expand on the audit subjects and provide links, publications, guidance on best practices and ACL audit programs.

Have a Midwest Regional Conference.

Include more sample reports and work programs

More training, education, webinars and networking for CAE's

N/A

Have another combined conference with CHAN more classes/seminars

There is always value in having a better understanding of what other healthcare institutions are doing about issues, themes, legislation. If you can find ways to facilitate this type of knowledge sharing, whether it be through surveys like this or more direct knowledge sharing sessions, it would be helpful. Many times we are asked by senior leadership and the audit committee if our Institution is in-line with what other organizations are doing, and we don't have an easy and reliable mechanism respond to these types of requests. The current AHIA forums are underused, and therefore do not provide an easy way to ask questions of other institutions and expect valid results/feedback. offer free 1 hour webinars, similar to IIA.

Expand local/regional events. The national conference is so awesome, I just wish I could attend more of this caliber closer to where I am at - Kansas City area. How would we go about organizing a local/regional event in the heart of the Midwest?

Provide lower conference fee to members

Provide more and cheaper on-line seminars for members

Identify key hot topics and using the approach of a regional 1 day seminar carry out the same agenda/speakers on west coast/east coast/in central us locations

Develop a digital version of New Perspectives and allow members to select the method of delivery-- hard copy or digital

Stop using the same speakers each year at the conference: even if they discuss a different topic. There are hundreds of expert AHIA members, take advantage of it.

Offer more Webinars.

Please update the website with more current tools!

Provide more educational opportunities at a reasonable cost.

Have more IT audit trainings (not just basics) and have a CISA study class (perhaps the weekend before the annual conference)

Perhaps some contests or some other methodology to inspire members to respond to the list serv questions that are posted. Provide more current audit tools (i.e. audit programs and audit reports).

AHIA could introduce more updated and current audit tools, such as audit programs, risk matrices and other periodicals to assist with performing healthcare related audits. It could also increase training opportunities for healthcare auditors.

Understand and address the needs of academic medical centers. A state educational system is much different than a private healthcare system. We have a great deal of medical research, intellectual property, and educational issues that aren't addressed as much in AHIA as we need. But, on the other hand, ACUA is not addressing the healthcare side of colleges, either. We're stuck in limbo. local chapters

Ensure top notch Annual conference session speakers. For some reason, I felt this past year was not up to par as in previous years...I am not sure what is happening. I also believe that the AHIA Board members should be more professional. I was disgusted with the way one of the Board members presented themselves in Philadelphia.

Increased webinars more complimentary webinars. particularly interested in construction, wage and hour, physician contracts.

Have more regional offerings.

16) What do you believe AHIA could do differently to better serve the profession of healthcare internal auditing? Response Answer Options Count 71 answered question 71 skipped question 167

Response Text More web based training (more cost effective).

Start offering conference sessions that discuss a managed health care plan, the affects of the Obama Health Care initiative, and tools related to the IIA and ISACA associations.

Developing a certification for healthcare internal auditors.

See item #15

Provide more webinar and audit tool and information

Has there been any discussion about creating some sort of healthcare auditor certification? This might be a great way of providing a framework for focused training on the healthcare industry and relevant risks. This also could also be a help to those that hire auditors

Our colleagues in compliance - notably HCCA have several certifications that they have developed over the past few years for those in their field. I certainly don't believe that the CIA and CPA need to be the end all be all of certifications in our profession. collaborate with HFMA, HCCA, MGMA on projects of mutual interest

Keep focusing on the new regulations for healthcare as they relate to operations and information technology within the hospital and ambulatory settings. work more pro actively with HFMA to weigh in on accounting for new issues like meaningful use dollars, ACOs, etc.

Partnering more with Compliance organizations may be helpful.

Introduce overseas chapters

Provide overseas members to participate /enroll in USA seminars

Hold a periodic conference call for CAEs and perhaps a separate periodic conference call for all auditors like the TechTalk, but for other audits (Financial, Operational, Compliance).

Provide for more information and current tools on the website related to current events/issues such as HIPAA & ICD10.

I think the organization is doing a good job; we as practitioners could be more active and more sharing with information. Perhaps that will take the organization hanging some carrots in front of us.

I've been to the conferences (local chapter and the annual conference) and it would be great if I could walk away from the sessions with actual tools and techniques to use. I feel I only walk away with audit ideas and topics to discuss further, which is great, but I want to know how to apply the knowledge in a meaningful manner.

Offer archiving of webinar's so that members could refer back to specifics in the webinars or offer a chance to review the webinar if unavailable to attend the live session. Offer more conferences in locations closer to where I'm located or a way to be involved in the conferences via teleconference. White papers and other publications on the profession. These could be incorporated into IIA activities, Compliance, etc.

Provide more insight into the upcoming regulation changes that go into effect in 2013 and 2014 (e.g. Healthcare exchanges). For instance, how are internal audit shops preparing for the changes and are there certain tasks they are being asked to do.

Start a data base of programs/resources for auditors in the field.

Keep striving to raise the level each year as has happened over the past, particularly the last 5 + years. Provide more networking on large system auditors (we are an 8 system, soon to be 9 system organization) and how they handle/coordinate larger system audits, rather than smaller facilities that are standalone.

I do not know.

More classes that show the practical applications instead of the theoretical applications.

Improve and increase the AHIA Audit Library.

More resources for those new to the industry.

Not sure nothing at this time

More seminars and training in healthcare internal auditing.

Update AHIA Library on a regular basis with new content. Include a definition page or dictionary of healthcare terms and audit terms. Provide performance benchmarks? (audit productivity). Less technical writing and more experiential articles/sections in the magazine (for example: my best audit and my worst audit and why).

Keep on improving

More information and analysis (including impact to various aspects of health care industry - payers, providers, others) of emerging issues such as health care reform (e.g., Health Insurance Exchanges, ACOs, Medicaid expansion, etc.), ICD-10, etc.

Push out summary of changing regulations to members. This could be done for minor fee.

Availability of training for all levels - staff through CAE - could really help to differentiate AHIA as a go-to resource for healthcare internal auditing. As mentioned above, the IIA offers a lot of training in a variety of formats. At times this training is cost-prohibitive to not-for-profit healthcare internal audit departments. AHIA could set its price point so that it offers affordable training specific to healthcare. Staff level training is another key facet in promoting AHIA as a healthcare industry resource. Well-trained staff that stay in the industry as they progress through their careers are important to demonstrating the value of internal audit in an ever- changing environment.

Coordinate with other healthcare organizations to build awareness of the internal audit function

More webinars offerings; remote opportunities

Change the time of year for the yearly conference. It's back to school time and very inconvenient especially for those of us moving kids to college; Conferences are EXCELLENT so my dissatisfaction is with the scheduling not the content or the speakers.

Link tools shared informally via List Serve to the site so they get reviewed and posted.

Update the audit tools on the website.

Explore a collaboration with HIMSS

I really think AHIA does a great job. Members are very much into sharing with each other and that is huge! Possibly implementing local chapters or regional chapters with regular meetings like the IIA would be cool if there is interest.

Understand that the educators do not have nearly as much money as the private sector does. We have four people that would love to come every year and we are lucky if we can send two every other year. It seems like AHIA only chooses the most expensive places and hotels for the annual conference. have more educational tools

Provide more how to, guidance and other reference material to help me do a better job and/or stay on top of emerging healthcare matters and how internal audit can be, is or should be involved. Develop local chapters and chapter events in major city locations throughout the US. Similar to HFMA. Expand to include more than just hospital auditors to engage auditors in other segments of healthcare as well to foster collaboration among all auditors in the industry and further develop the profession.

None.

Since I am in a very small audit shop, I would be interested in networking opportunities based on staff size and industry. I'm finding a lot of the information here doesn't apply to a physician practice.

Advertise and show more job opportunities - introduce a healthcare Certification

Need frequent Webcasts (CPE eligible) with relevant, important topics.

Nothing at this time

See response to Q15.

Provide news items relevant to the profession more often than the monthly e-News Letter.

More targeted education on techniques like performing risk assessments, Audit Report Writing, Managing the Internal Audit Department, Working with the Audit Committee, IT Auditing, etc.

Not sure.

More regional offerings given that travel budgets are constrained.

N/A

More regulatory communications

More whitepapers and guidance on emerging issues (e.g., the AHIA PWC Meaningful Use Whitepaper). more continuing education opportunities continued webinars and training events

Assist the industry in understanding how best to approach breaking down various legislative requirements (i.e. HIPAA, Meaningful Use, etc.) into discrete auditable components. This could also include talking through available guidance (i.e. the OCR audit program for HIPAA) via webinars. If this has already been done, then maybe increasing the awareness of such activities that AHIA provides would be beneficial.

Closer alignment with the IIA. I believe the IIA standards should be emphasized more with our organization. Also, HCCA. These two organizations are a wealth of information on auditing and monitoring and I would like to see more collaboration between the three groups on standards and education.

Promote important role and responsibilities of healthcare internal auditors

Benchmarking statistics for healthcare organizations, similar to the IIA GAIN resource (which is very limited in the healthcare realm) have more webinars offer affordable conferences set up a local chapter in NY

More direct discussions with MACs, RACs, ect to determine their rules and regs and provide this to our audit community. Many times it seems that distinction isn't made between the rules for facility billing vs. professional billing. More clear and concise guidance on these issues would be great!

Offer free webinars like IIA does but directed solely at Healthcare.

Provide us with updates to regulations and programs of the government to assist us with our monitoring function.

It is hard to find the listserv. listserve is not user friendly and is hard to use. not a lot of good information that i am usually able to find.

Very professional on publication and website Suggest expansion of site and materials

Very professional and seems to improve in quality and formatting (user friendliness) as time marches onward

I appreciate the information and as I am new to the role I would expect to utilize the site more going forward in the future.

Sometimes sluggish Increase and update the Audit Library.

Would be nice to easily access historical seminars/conferences. Once the conference is over, I was not able to find out information on previous conferences.

Retiring 3-29-13

I have not been going to the website alot. I am under staffed and very busy. I have not had much time to do research as in the past.

Addition of the searchable New Perspectives database is great but was limited in its ability to find the key words I was searching for. Found an article that applied to my search just by scrolling through the full listing of the contents of an issue even though the search didn't have any results.

The library and auditnet are useful tools. However, there is very little internal audit reference and guidance available. AHIA as a sharing/networking organization does a nice job. However, as a source for information to help me understand and apply internal audit to healthcare specific issues it is not.

This may never be possible, but I think it would serve the membership and profession greatly.

A little slow and sometimes hard to find things.

Good resource . Need more online information for medical coding certification .

Keep up the good work - I would like to contribute to the org on some committee

You are doing a great job. I have been disappointed with conferences where instructors say to contact them with questions and then never respond or send the class slides they promised when you do. That has happened to me in several of your courses for two years in a row. Debra Weatherford was one of the instructors - very disappointing.

Generally don't go to the website unless I need to. Don't visit it often.

My Management is currently questioning the benefits we receive from the AHIA membership.

Search capability of the audit library and the general look and feel of the library needs improvement. I also think the job listings could be more valuable than it currently is...we should promote the job listings as a huge benefit of membership and encourage organizations to list open positions. I do not support the site bringing in positions from Monster based on keywords. Members can go to Monster directly if they want.

It is hard to find the listserve. The links are not very easy to follow. N /A

I don't use it very often, but I can't say if that is because it does not contain useful information, or if I just don't know where to find it, or if I just have other readily available resources that I'm comfortable with. I would say that the website probably needs more visibility, and the resources available need to be better advertised.

Happy with the current website. May explore more healthcare practices among different states and countries.

I'd just like to have an app for my phone that I could read the articles/magazine from similar to IIA

I think this website could use an update. Additionally, a lot of the pages do not always function or properly link.

Response Text Need to ensure items are kept up to-date.

Currently not satisfied with the information that is on the site. One of the primary reasons for joining AHIA is to get access to sample audit programs, especially on unfamiliar topics (being new to the healthcare industry). There is no standard format for the information that is presented, and some programs are specific to a company versus a topic.

Better organization of documents. Robust Search function (to be able to search within a document based on key words). More updated material!

Perhaps someone should be managing the Audit Library & sending out communication (email or listserve) to members as "call to submit" on a specific topic?

I have used and downloaded audit programs from the library that have helped with audits I was working on. I have found the site useful.

Adding to the published guidelines what topics are needed, if there is a review process, etc could be very helpful to potential first-time submitters. A quality review could also be helpful to ensuring the submissions will be beneficial to other members.

Relative to my response to 30, I am not looking so much for feedback in general but ideally there would be some review process that would ensure the useful of submissions prior to posting and periodic review based on number of hits, etc. to ensure continued usefulness. For instance, for items receiving a minimal threshold of hit annually, perhaps there would be no need to review; anything below that threshold would warrant review to ensure it remain current and useful. As such, all the other ideas are useful as promotional tolls for the library and should be considered as additional marketing enhancements as opposed to only alternatives to each other. You might also consider pursuing the Editorial Committee to try to get someone to author an article on how the use of the library helped them (with specific details in the article that both promote use of the library and provide technical value to the reader).

Keep on developing the work Already done to date

I would consider some method (maybe establish a committee) to identify the content that is the best by category and asterisk it to denote this and also periodically review the older content to see if it still is beneficial. I would also better market why the Library is important to the membership so members do not have to reinvent the wheel when conducting audits. In addition, to encourage submissions, the process for submissions should be clearly outlined and easily accessible on the site including who is responsible for scrubbing the content and ensuring it is appropriately scrubbed. Also, the top (3?) content providers should receive recognition. Consider establishing an annual goal by category as to the amount of content we would like to receive and provide quarterly updates to the membership to help encourage submissions.

Never visited the site, therefore, no comments.

Rarely find information of relevance to the audit topics on our annual audit plan

I was not aware that contributing to the AHIA Library was an option. I'm not sure if there is a link available on the home page, but if there isn't, I would recommend putting one. If there is a link, I would recommend highlighting it somehow. There should also be additional information about contributing audit programs.

Continue to solicit updated reports and programs

i use the audit library any time we start a new audit. it might be helpful to have new perspectives articles sorted in similar format (financial, operations, construction) as the audit library instead of just sorted by year or entering a search term. the different topics help find what i'm looking for quickly. i love the audit library, wish some of the older documents were removed.

Make the listserv easier to find on the website. hard to use and not a lot of good info.

It doesn't seem like we are maximizing the potential of this tool. The requests and most responses that I see in general lack value in educating the members about what others in our field are working on. I have a feeling that most of the discussions / transfer of knowledge is happening off line. It seems like the list serv could use a dedicated moderator and / or an upgrade in functionality.

The questions and comments are helpful most of the time, but questions and responses come from the same group of individuals which are usually at the level of manager, director or above instead of staff and senior auditors which is intimidating at times. Also, when a useful topic is addressed, the actual material, for example isn't provided in the list serv or loaded to the audit library.

Really appreciate the information I receive from it. people use the listserv for simplistic items and excessive chatter

Have seen improvements over the years.

There are many good questions; not very many people answer the good questions though. I'm never confident that I fully understand the "rules" for submitting questions, responding to questions, etc... I just don't use it. how do I get on it-- isn't this pretty much the same thing as Linked IN?

Very helpful, quick responses when needed, and afforded opportunity to network one on one if needed and if topic required privacy.....

Have not used it recently - tended to fill up my email box, but now I forget to go out to the site to read. I am not subscribed, but would like to be as I do not think I am at this time.

I subscribed to it several years ago but after some type of change, I quit receiving the emails. Until today, I had not re-subscribed.

Wish more people would participate rather than simply lurk and take information without taking the time to share themselves.

Several time in the past I would collect responses and try to post a summary of the survey to the list (usually in the form of a Word table document) and it would rejected by the listserv as being too large. I haven't tried for a while, but it was a problem for years, stinting my ability to share with the other members. As a result I would have to send to the document separately to each individual who asked.

Doesn't seem to be utilized very much by members. Sharing of information seems limited. ACUA List- Serve is much, much more active and members seem to be much more willing to share information with their peers.

I have no opinion because I was not aware of what this was.

None

I send my responses only to the sender b/c not sure I want others to see; don't know how to handle rejection from group. n/a

I have found that some members are willing to share if you share results back with them but I have also found when asking for audits, at other times, some members are reluctant to share.

The list serve isn't easy to read. The way the threads are posted over and over with each response it is difficult to sift through the lengthy threads to find the new information/responses. should feed audit library ; comments go back to individuals rather than group; sometimes would like to offer input but would prefer my info be scrubbed/reviewed/anonymized

Recently joined the list serv.

I do not use this tool, so I have not been enticed to stop and think that it might be of value.

Love it

Would like to see movement towards another platform whether it be LinkedIn or another source to help with subsequent searches. With list-serv, if I delete message its gone. Or if a particular topic is important to be today but wasn't yesterday, its difficult if not impossible to revisit previous list-serv messages that may have been exchanged about the subject. Using an alternate solution with archiving and query features would be good.

I have not used the AHIA list serve. Not sure what types of information it could provide me. do not use

Everyone is very open and shares their knowledge and information readily.

It continues to be a useful source for sharing information. I don't know at what point it will be replaced by services like Linked In but to date I see nothing of real value on the AHIA Linked In site by comparison to what's shared on the list-serv. In some ways, the list serv feels more personal to me, that is I feel more like I'm conversing with people I know and with other members versus what often becomes a consultant selling platform on things like Linked In. That both serve good purposes at times so until you see list serv usage drop considerable, perhaps it's best to keep it while developing opportunities through the new forms of social media.

Would be great if the messages could be catalogued by topic for reference later.

I think the list serv is a great tool, but there are times when you get no response to your questions or issues.

Some of the information is very valuable but is not at the time I need it. I would be great if it could be maintained on the site like a blog. not a lot of responses to questions. the format in which we get weekly updates is not in easy-to-read format or searchable.

I have not used it. Don't know how.

Less and less activity/posting. Good questions and answers, but information not shared effectively with all members w/o asking/requesting.

None at this time

List Serv gets responses back timely and is very helpful. I wish more people would post to it. Seems to be the same people most of the time.

Didn't know it was there.

I receive the daily list of submissions rather than each submission individually. Attachments are not forwarded. It is sometimes difficult to get the attachments when it happens.

It all depends on the users. Some users are more active than others. Many never submit comments, at least not publicly. One concern is the sharing of information that could be used against one's organization by the OIG, DOH, or other regulatory bodies.

I feel some respondents post responses that are not based on an informed opinion or direct experience.

N/A

It would be nice to see more responses to inquiries or at least ONE response to each question.

With available social media, I think the list serv is a bit antiquated. I think we could utilize FB or Linked In to accomplish info sharing in a more timely, user-friendly way.

N/A

The few times I've been on there I have not seen much activity regarding the topics that interest me, and the ones that do typically do not have many responses. As a result, I've stopped checking the List Serv. If there is more activity now than in the last two years, I'll have to go back and check.

Would there be some way to periodically, (quarterly), group the key discussions by category and the responses that where provided so this information is available to all the members. Alternatively, although it may be too voluminous to archive the list serve content in the Library for future reference. Being on the list serve for many years, many discussions resurface.

Not active as other list serv such as ACUA (Association of College and University Auditors)

Information gathered is not readily shared back with members....so always seems one-sided since get a question or request by a member and don't learn of what is shared back by other members

Questions are posed - however very few answers are returned.

Love the list serv - it's my life line.

It doesn't seem like a variety of information comes out in this. There isn't much guidance only alot of articles that don't seem to really pertain to daily auditing activities.

If AHIA could come up with a way to inspire people to answer and provide feedback, that would be GREAT!!! I know the answers are out there; people (for whatever their reasons) are not comfortable sharing.

I get tired of wading through the back and forth chit-chat to find valuable information.

i am thankful for listserv. it's helped me well in the past.

Not currently receiving any emails except those from AHIA. Is something wrong with the List Serv? Also, when I did in the past put a request out there, I found that only a couple responses would result. It was very disappointing knowing that there were hundreds of really experienced folks out there and no one could bother pointing you in the right direction.

Managed Care Support Health Care Plans auditing i like the roundtable idea but too much of it. i want more best practice and thought leadership and not just from Deloitte.

Information technology emerging risks for healthcare industry hold a periodic conference call for CAEs and perhaps a separate periodic conference call for all auditors like the TechTalk, but for other audits (Financial, Operational, Compliance).

I would like to see some fresh topics offered in the sessions at the annual conferences. I didn't attend the 2012 conference in Philadelphia because I felt that the sessions offered in 2011 were much the same topics as what was offered in 2010.

Move date to Sept and October. Make it cheaper. Always have in Orlando. Have sessions in small groups to network.

Suggest moving across the country versus being ties to 1 or 2 cities. Suggest Orlando, Atlanta,

San Antonio, Las Vegas as my favorites Supply Chain Services Drug diversion (pharmacy and hospitals)

It might be helpful to have a few more new auditor offerings that are specific to how to audit.

Speaker who is a peer and has a real life example of audit performed with tools and lessons learned is of the most benefit to me. Location doesn't matter as long as it is in the continental US and near an airport. Webinars and/or regional meetings would be helpful. add breakfast to the pre sessions - I always attend. keep tracks not only for experienced, entry, moderate, but for content. Compliance - revenue cycle - payer audit - etc. 90 minutes a good time. tables help a lot. Keep it easy to review handouts online - I don't want to pack paper.

Cheaper accommodations. Cost of the Class and then the hotel and travel costs sometimes make the opportunity too expensive. My company is frugal and does not want to spend a lot of money on accommodations.

Regional events in more geographic areas

Free webcasts (preferably for CPE credit) several times during the year.

For people who can't attend (budget limitations or conflicts), make the national and regional conferences available via webcasts (even if you need to charge a fee to cover the cost).

Make the handouts from the conferences available to ALL members.

Resource of various software products available and used by auditors and healthcare auditors. Allow members to add their comments and ratings.

Increase and improve networking opportunities/social events.

Healthcare internal auditing. California.

CONTINUED EMPHASIS ON HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS/INSURANCE/HOSPITALS

Focus on emerging issues, how they will impact the industry from a payer perspective and a provider perspective; plus some key risks internal audit should focus on because of those emerging issues.

Should also cover leadership skills.

There have not been events in my area. Therefore, it has always been expensive due to travel. An occasional event in the south would be nice.

With young children I find it difficult to take time off to attend the conference as it is right near the first day of school. March -April would be another option.

Offer more!! Offering specialized topics in a webinar/online classroom environment would be wonderful. Potential topics could include risk assessments (as there are risks unique to the healthcare industry), IT security/privacy for the non-IT auditor, revenue cycle audits, etc.

Offering complimentary member-only webinars for CPE purposes. Time of year for Yearly conferences in late September, October, mid-late Jan, Feb, (These times would not in conflict with holidays, summer vacations, end of school or back to school) Here's 20 topics that you can cover over 20 monthly webinars: Implementing Top 20 IT Controls(per consensus audit guidelines) in a Healthcare environment. Each session can highlight one of the controls and can have a different speaker discuss how they achieved compliance with the specific control. Then have 2-3 other MUCH shorter presentations that offer different solutions for how they implemented the control. { offer as playback/on demand and publish presentations, tools, etc. for future reference)

Set up some way to enhance our awareness of peers at the conference, their backgrounds and experience. Maybe some way to learn from the audience experience

I think that you guys do a great job! I have thought that your conference topics are very relevant and have enjoyed the ones that I have been able to attend.

As it relates to the annual conference. I don't like that it typically coincides with the beginning of school. It would be nice for it to be when the kids are out of school to take advantage of the various locations and allowing my family to travel and more importantly not having to select between my kid's first day of school or this important conference.

Any topics on auditing the EMR & Meaningful Use; Dept of Labor laws as it relates to pay rules It would be great if AHIA would provide classes, speakers, etc geared towards Higher Education. The last conference I attended, there were many schools represented but nothing was geared toward our way of doing business.

Free healthcare internal topical webinars for members would be great. The IIA offers these and I find most of them of value. Since many relate to IIA Standards and the like, AHIA could perhaps consider some of these as pilots for conference topics - for instance, have 30 minute free webinars on topics planned for the conference that give potential conference goers a taste that makes them want to go to the conference to get more information. This could work for both the annual and regional conferences.

More strategically located and cost effective.

Provide networking sessions that are tailored to staff size or line of business.

More Health Plan specific topics

More regional conferences in Northeast

None at this time

Provide badges that conference attendees may use to swipe in for attendance at sessions.

Develop a mobile conference app that will include the conference program and handouts. Remote access to regional seminars (i.e. webinar) so those unable to physically attend could benefit from hearing the presentations at the same time.

Add more local, affordable events. Considering working with other associations, such as IIA, Certified Fraud Examiners, ISASA, etc., to increase location sites and keep fees low.

It would be nice to have more regional conferences and webinars and to be made aware of them months in advance, maybe even a year in advance. hold more events in the Georgia/South Carolina area, such as in the Augusta GA/Columbia SC area.

More hands on practical sessions with take aways that can be immediately included in daily activity.

More information for Health Insurance Plans.

It's a matter of my employer approving attendance. If the budget and work schedule does not allow, I am not able to attend, although I would love to.

Risk Assessment Process-innovative ways to do one to get away from the old interviews/surveys

It might be helpful to allow members to contribute questions about specific topics that will be covered at events well in advance so that the presenters can incorporate the questions into the curriculum. That way the presenters will be able to focus the content on the areas where they will provide the most value. Also, at the Philadelphia event there were several topics that were similar in nature, and the content overlap was significant (to the extent that the same person presented the same or similar slides). Better review of proposed content might make sure that topics are diverse enough, and limit overlap.

Physician Practice, E Health Records, HIPPA, Revenue Cycle

Seattle, WA, New York, L.A. Baltimore, etc.

Kansas City, San Antonio, Dallas, Memphis

More local events to attend.

Lower the cost. With so many auditors in our department educational resources are limited and the cost of these functions almost always exceeds our individual education budget limits.

Closer to or in Virginia.

Need to do more with Medicare CoP and the regs associated with those.

Perhaps review the ListServ requests for information in the past 12 months and recruit speakers to cover the prominent topics.

Stay at less expensive places. Most academic medical centers can't afford the type of conference hotels and cities you contract with. Bring the cost down by holding it in less expensive places, like Salt Lake City, Denver, Nashville or other non-coast areas. Spread it around the country and look for less expensive alternatives. for live conferences, have one in Raleigh, Greensboro, or Charlotte, NC. that'd be driving distance for me so i could actually go to it. I get a lot of CPE from free webinars from other sources but they aren't always catered to healthcare internal auditing. I would love for you all to offer more complimentary webinars, otherwise the conferences and AHIA webinars cost too much for me to be able to attend. very limited budget when i have to earn 40 hours a year. as a result, i have not attended any AHIA sponsored training, why pay more when i can get free training elsewhere or in driving distance? Topics of interest for me: construction auditing, ACL (level 2), clinical trials, physician compensation

Increased free webinars

Free webinars like the IIA does but they would be more relevant since they would be healthcare specific.

I audit the non-patient/medical record areas of our hospital and health system. so i am interested in construction, HR, payroll, AP, procurement, contracts, clinical trials, physician compensation. i'll take anything that is cost effective and earns me CPE credit for my CPA license. with so many free webinars and inexpensive self studies on the market, i haven't been able ot take any AHIA learning opportunities b/c of cost. Response Text AHIA is a first rate professional organization with many benefits for members of the healthcare internal audit profession.

conferences calls for education purposes need to be set up to track attendance sufficient to qualify for CPE credits for CPAs, etc.

would love for my staff to be able to benefit from training at more reasonable cost and receive CPEs to apply to CIA, CISA. They are all members of IIA because of local chapter and training but it'd cost prohibitive to let all join AHIA. Training on devices that can be shared would be helpful, especially if they could get credit.

I believe I experienced activities - national and regional conferences, committee meetings, board meetings, LR/Strategic planning meetings, social events - with almost every AHIA Management Firm and we had lots of ups and downs with each BUT I can honestly say that I am most impressed with David Stumph and his staff for the dedication, professionalism, and leadership displayed each year to keep AHIA in the forefront of healthcare internal auditing.

I lost my job as CAE in 2010 and have been consulting since. Paying the fees to keep up memberships such as AHIA, which add value, but are not part of certified programs (CIA, CFE, CPA) is difficult.

In future surveys, please tell us how long the survey is by indicating number of questions and/or displaying a bar indicating % of survey complete.

It has always been my recommendation that one of the 2 clinicians in the department have a member; with the shutdown of the TRICARE contract, that is a moot point.

I would love to see a retiree membership option.

Timing of the Annual Conference should be re-visited. With young children I find it difficult to take time off to attend the conference as it is right near the first day of school. March -April would be another option or November December.

I think volunteer organizations in general are heavily challenged by the inability to get committed volunteers. Anything AHIA can do to expand its pool of supporters would be fantastic since the ideas this survey will generate will likely require more human resources to achieve. As such, pursue new ways to lure and feed those volunteers. I don't know how much this might challenge the AHIA budget, but the more volunteer, the more that can be achieved. AHIA should also consider taking more risk relative to creating or fostering those who are willing to create reference and guidance material for the profession. I think recognition and trinkets help. For instance, providing logoed hats, shirts and other merchandise or free conference meals, etc. to volunteers can be very helpful - it can have a low cost but a big benefit. perhaps each committee chair should be provided with a budget and access to AHIA management to effect the recognition and trinkets that its members might most cherish. Good luck!

I've been a member of AHIA on and off for nearly 15 years. They've always offered a great conference at an affordable price. They have since added e-news ( a great addition), tech talk and list serve which are OK but not great. Otherwise AHIA is pretty much the same as it was 15 years ago. (I greatly enjoy membership and will continue to be a member. However, I don't think there has been much change.) Need more regional activities. My region has not done much. Do we have a Region Representative that can coordinate? Is that information published somewhere? Does the Region Rep contact members occasionally or wait for the members to contact them?

N/A

I will retire 3/13 when the company shuts down TRICARE contract operations.

I think that AHIA can be more of a resource to me, however I'm not sure I am fully aware of all of the available resources. Also, enhancing communication among members would be extremely helpful. I know the List Serv is meant to facilitate this, but as recently as 1.5 years ago it did not seem to be highly used or provide meaningful communication exchanges.

Please review to determine if annual conference fee can be reduced.

This survey was kind of long . . . I lost interested and probably didn't answer some of the questions very accurately, as I needed to get done! Sorry!

We are only allowed one professional membership per year paid by our employer. We have to maintain our professional association with the IIA because of our CIA designation. We can renew our membership in AHIA if the cost is offset by the reduced price of a conference, but since conferences (and the travel costs involved) are usually prohibitive, we only occasionally renew. I need to tell my boss my CPE plans at the beginning of the year, but I don't know what's going to be at the AHIA conference until much later. I can't count on the subjects meeting my needs before I need to make that decision. So cost and uncertainty of value are our issues.
