President’s Award for Tutoring/Mentoring Excellence (PATME) Nomination

The President’s Award for Tutoring/Mentoring Excellence (PATME) is awarded annually to up to two Tutors or Academic Experts in recognition of outstanding instruction to Athabasca University students - one in undergraduate programs and one in graduate programs.

Nominations will be adjudicated by the GFC Academic Excellence Awards Committee (AEAC) based on the nominee’s contributions to excellence in instruction to students as demonstrated by:

 Sustained achievements in tutoring/mentoring;  Impact on student success; and  Innovation in the delivery of subject matter.

Tutors and Academic Experts who have had continuous service of at least three years are eligible for the PATME. Tutors or Academic Experts who are retiring during the year of the award are not eligible.

Guidelines for Submitting a Nomination

Read the Academic Excellence Awards Policy and PATME Procedures before preparing and submitting a nomination. Please ensure the nominee; nominator(s) and seconder(s) meet the eligibility requirements.

Complete the PATME nomination form in full.

Sign the PATME nomination form (electronic signatures are accepted)

Include a submission from the nominator and seconder that provides explanatory information (2-3 pages) on how the nominee’s contributions fulfill the award criteria. Consult with the nominee to ensure information is complete and accurate. Please organize the information according to the criteria.

The nominee’s permission must be obtained if you are including a summary of anonymous student comments. (In the case of CUPE tutor nominees, such summaries are available from Learning Services Tutorial).

Include 3-4 letters of support from colleagues or students that demonstrate how the nominee’s contributions fulfill one or more of the award criteria. (You must have the author’s permission to include the letter if it was not written for the purpose of this award).

Include a letter from the nominee outlining their teaching philosophy (up to 1 page).

Where applicable, include letters of support from collaborating institutions that demonstrate how the nominee’s contributions fulfill one or more of the award criteria.

Submission
