Abstract

How is the Environment Impacted When Companies Violate Stormwater Runoff Policies Handled by Environmental Law Enforcers?

Stormwater runoff is a combination of loose sediments and rainwater. This research analyzes the impacts of stormwater runoff on the environment as many construction companies commit stormwater runoff policy violations. Through evaluation of peer-reviewed articles, it was found that stormwater runoff continues to serve as a pollutant in the environment since it is not contained properly by construction companies. Many companies ignore stormwater runoff permit policies and notices of violations. The analysis of stormwater runoff cases and documents from the Georgia Environmental Protective Division

(EPD) website supported the fact that the most common stormwater runoff violation committed by companies is “failure to maintain Best Management Practices”. The staff members of the Georgia EPD are also the law enforcers for stormwater runoff policies in the state. These members admitted that educating the public and companies on stormwater runoff violations would better help limit the number of violations committed. In addition, the law enforcers also believed that with a greater amount of resources in the stormwater runoff division of the Georgia EPD, members would be able to better enforce stormwater runoff policies. This research will serve as an important asset for future stormwater runoff cases.

Container Housing for the Enhancement of Military Deployment Chloe Enix Dr. Jimmy Carter, Mr. Jack Reece, & Professor Orren Williams AP Literature/Senior Project, Technical Manufacturing, & Research Design Project

Container housing is a modern concept that is rapidly becoming a popular alternative to traditional accommodations. The intermodal steel building unit or ISBU is strong and durable. This makes repurposing for construction a great economical and environmentally friendly. The purpose of this project was to develop an enhanced housing method for deployed troops by designing floor plans inside of ISBU units using Autodesk Revit software. The models created include a Staff Officer’s quarters with full amenities, squad barracks and a self-contained lavatory and laundry unit. Each unit has required extensive research to complete and is still in development. Models of these units were produced using a Stratasys uPrint (3D) printer. Research was required in the architectural areas of home design, spatial layout, and material composition of walls, insulation, and foundation. In engineering areas, research was required in Physics and Chemistry on topics such as foundation and strength testing, as well as heat transfer. It was learned that house design is a much broader topic than construction. A recommended study would be to devise a tactical solution into the transportation issues related to ISBU usage for deployable housing. An Abstract is a Concise Summary
