Staffing Plan ODU Blue Team - ThrillTracker

Purpose

For any project to be completed, it must have the proper staff in place to carry out goals and objectives, as such is the case with ThrillTracker, Inc. The personnel needed for for the ThrillTracker may change from phase to phase, but continuous development and support of our product us a must through the product development cycle and into the out years.

Phases

The project life cycle is broken down into four phases with distinct deliverables for each. In order to meet the deadlines as outlined in the Work Breakdown Structure, the proper staff must be in place to complete these tasks so that overall project objectives are completed. Aside from phase 0, a project budget has been outlined and would allow for the work to be reimbursed through pay. An estimated salary is listed beside each role.

Phase 0

The initial phase of the project will see the five team members, Tom Hager, Jody Hughes, Eric Mow, Zakary Wade, and Xishun Wang fill their respective roles as outlined in the phase 0 organizational chart. In addition, Janet Brunelle will be serving as the CEO, Doug Stagner, Director of Operations of Busch Gardens Europe will be our theme park domain expert. Many of the persons involved will be wearing multiple hats until the project can get funding to hire additional help.

During this phase project research takes place to investigate similar products on the market and to additionally weigh out if the project is even feasible. Risks that could adversely affect the project are weighed and mitigated. Finally an Small Business Innovative Research document is prepared, in addition to presentations (Concept, Feasibility, Milestone) are presented to the review board.

Phase 0 Budget

There will be no funding for this phase, therefore no one will be paid. Everyone is working out of hopes that ThrillTracker will be a huge success!

Phase 0 Role Descriptions

Each role for the phase has a brief description of duties listed below.

 CEO President of ODU Technologies. Oversees several projects and coordinates the teams to work on those projects.

 Team Leader Could also be known as the project manager. Assigns tasks to group mates, coordinates agendas, and prepares minutes after meetings. Assigns deadlines to project goals and objectives and keeps the team on task.

 Risk Specialist Evaluates risks and is constantly looking for any other risks that might have been overlooked. Every risk should have a description, a probability, an overall impact, and should have mitigations in place.

 Communication Specialist Responsible for external communication with domain experts. Also responsible for determining what communication medium to use for the group. Keeps an comprehensive log file of group meetings archived.

 Financial Specialist Creates overall project budget and funding. Determines the cost of all associated hardware, software, tools for development and personnel.

 Marketing Manager Investigates possible ways to market the product. Constantly develops the Marketing Plan and determines the main selling points of the product to market to the primary customer.

 SBIR Expert While work on the SBIR is divided amongst the team, the SBIR Expert is the go to person for SBIR knowledge. This person will coordinate the overall document once all of the pieces are in place.

ODU Blue Team ThrillTracker Spring 2007  Web Master (Expert) Creates and keeps the website up to date with project progress. Also uploads any project documents, deliverables, and presentations.

 Technology Expert The go to person that has a good understanding of all of the underlying technology used in the project. Also responsible for investigating new technology that could help project progress and improve future revisions.

 Hardware Expert The go to person for hardware used in the project. In particular, this person has a good understanding of RFID technologies, readers, writers, databases, servers, kiosks, etc. Determines which hardware to use for the project.

 Software Expert Oversees software development for the product. Investigates which languages to use for the creation of software depending on the hardware as outlined by the hardware expert. Also investigates software tools that could be used to aide in the creation of the product.

 Domain Expert Individual with vast knowledge of the project domain. Provides answers and guidance to lead the team in the correct direction with the project.

During phase 1 time will be devoted to developing a lab prototype of the ThrillTracker. Most of the staff will stay exactly the same as it was in phase 0, with the exception being that the team will add two additional roles in the form of a Database consultant, and a Web consultant. Currently, Dr. Levinstein has been receptive to possibly serving as our Database consultant for phase 1.

Phase 1 Budget

If the SBIR proposal goes through, the team will use a total of $84,280 for personnel. This total can be archived by taking the total from above, and adding a 40% overhead. At this point members of ThrillTracker, Inc. will begin receiving a paycheck for the work. A breakdown of pay depending on role is as follows and can be observed in more depth within the Funding Plan.

Phase 1 Role Descriptions

The only two new roles in Phase 1 will be the Database Consultant and the Web Consultant. Because the other roles are broken down above, we will only discuss the new positions.

 Database Consultant Responsible for creating preliminary database design, creation of DB's, tables, defining data types within those tables. Creating flow charts for the flow of data and data decomposition. Additionally, responsible for writing SQL code for database and table access, and maintenance of the databases.

ODU Blue Team ThrillTracker Spring 2007  Web Consultant Responsible for creating initial interface for Web-based kiosk software interfaces. Should also create code for communicating the kiosk software with the database.

Phase 2 will be concerned with producing a working prototype of ThrillTracker, as well as testing. This is where real development, refinement, and testing will began. Because of this, staff will have to be hired to fill the roles in order meet these demands. Some staff that is already on board with the project might move naturally into these roles.

Phase 2 Budget

If the SBIR proposal goes through for Phase 2, the team can get funded for $750,000.00. Many new positions will be opened and work on the full product prototype will begin. Staffing will cost a total of $580,608.00 (this is AFTER our 40% overhead). The total can be archived by adding the total of the above roles and multiplying the salary by the number of employees based on their role, and then adding a 40% overhead to that initial total. A breakdown of pay depending on role is as follows and can be observed in more depth within the Funding Plan.

Phase 2 Role Descriptions

 Project Manager Noted as the Team Leader above, so this role adopts the same roles. This person is responsible for the coordination and completion of the overall project and assign tasks to members of the team. The person in this role also sets deadlines and monitors overall project progress.

 Software Engineer Plans, designs, develops, and debugs the software required for ThrillTracker, Inc. Also responsible for support and modification of these software applications.

 Quality Assurance Engineer Inspects the quality of code, software, and hardware modules that are produced by ThrillTracker, Inc. Should be grounded in software design and initially set up coding standards that will be used for the lift time of the project.

 Web Developer Responsible for development and maintenance of the ThrillTracker, Inc. website and also responsible for production of web-based software solutions that are to be used for the ThrillTracker product. Will work closely with the Database Special and Software Engineers, as well as the GUI Developer.

 Technical Writer Responsible for the creation of technical documentation of code modules (stripped from code generated b Software Engineers per the Quality Assurance Engineer's outlined standards). Also responsible for the creation of users manual and documentation for the ThrillTracker product.

 Network Engineer Responsible for the development of network topology based upon the target customer. Tests to ensure that communications between network devices are kept secure, reliable, efficient and fast.

 IT Specialist Configures, installs, and maintains hardware and software for the team. Performs software and hardware audits. Also helps deploy the final ThrillTracker product and insures compatibility with any existing systems.

 GUI Developer Develops user-friendly, intuitive GUI designs that integrate well with software modules developed by Software Engineers, and webpages developed by Web Developers. Should keep a common theme between any GUI elements developed for web deployment and kiosk deployment.

In the final phase of the project, a full staff has been assembled to begin full scale production and roll-out of the product. This phase is concerned with testing, constant market research and marketing methods, and product roll-out. Additionally staff has been hired to extend product support into post production phases.

Phase 3 Budget

When the project reaches the Production and Out Years phase, ThrillTracker should at least have an initial customer. For the first time, the project will not be funded and will became self sufficient with hopes of attracting customers through dedicated marketing and market research. As always, breakdown of pay depending on role is as follows and can be observed in more depth within the Funding Plan.

Phase 3 Role Descriptions

The only new roles in Phase 3 will be the Finance Manager, Marketing Manager, an Attorney, and Customer Support Representatives. Because the other roles are broken down above, we will only discuss the new positions below:

 Finance Manager During this phase the company becomes self reliant so it is mandatory that the company have someone to oversee finances to ensure that budgets are kept within reason and the ThrillTracker is able to sustain its employees and additionally make enough to cut a profit at the end of the day.

 Marketing Director A large part of this final phase, and the out years is market research and marketing the

ODU Blue Team ThrillTracker Spring 2007 ThrillTracker solution to potential customers. Vitally important to the success of the project, the Marketing Director oversees marketing decisions as well as keeps marketing of the ThrillTracker competitive and up to date.

 Attorney Creates and documents licensing and EULAs for ThrillTracker-produced software solutions. Also reviews purchasing and licensing software contracts used in procuring other software and hardware. Creates and procures copyright and patent documentation on the ThrillTracker product.

 Customer Support Representatives Provides end user support for ThrillTracker products, additionally troubleshoots any problems with ThrillTracker systems.
