POSITION TITLE: Engineering Assistant, classification determined by experience and qualifications, Sagle headquarters.

DURATION: Position expected to become a regular full time position, there is a twelve-month probationary period.

SALARY: Determined by Classification Schedule.

REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent, additional school or technical training to fill duties. Must be proficient on a computer. Must have at all times a current driver’s license.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 1. Two year degree in one of the applied science fields or equivalent experience in electrical utility design projects. 2. Must have or gain a working knowledge of “basic power distribution electrical theory”, understanding of items such as transformer, metering, regulators and reclosers. 3. Must be proficient with computer software NLI uses including GIS, CAD, StakeOut, SAG10, Excel, and Word. 4. Must become proficient in RUS and NLI construction standards and NESC requirements. 5. Must have or gain a working knowledge of basic surveying techniques and theories. 6. Must have or gain a working knowledge of basic drafting techniques. 7. Must be able to work outdoors extensively in all weather conditions, in difficult terrain and at times for extended hours 8. Must be able to effectively work with and communicate, both orally and written, to other employees and the public. 9. Have or obtain a state highway flagging certificate, 1st Aid CPR certificate.

DUTIES: Design and stake overhead and underground distribution/transmission systems per RUS, NESC, and NLI standards. Prepare cost estimates and easements for design projects. Proficient in scheduling, tracking and updating jobs on the computer. Operate underground locating equipment. Provide input for work plans and budgets. Provide assistance with system analysis. Perform work required to keep NLI records and standards updated. Perform field inspections and as-built facilities to obtain information for map and record maintenance. Be familiar with using and maintaining GIS modeling. Dispatch functions including Outage Management Systems. Required to work overtime to meet engineering demands and assisting during planned and unplanned outages.
