Dear Parents/Carers

The safety of our children is one of our greatest concerns.

Since becoming Head Teacher in September, I have had numerous complaints from parents about the inconsiderate and dangerous parking of a number of our parents when dropping their children off at school and picking them up again after school. It is imperative that parents park with consideration and do not put others at risk. Our parking Policy clearly states ‘parents should be aware of the dangers to pupils caused by parking on pavements, double yellow and zig zag lines around the school’.

Some parents/carers seem to be ignoring this and are parking on the pavements and blocking the path of pedestrians, especially families with prams and pushchairs, when they open their doors. They are also making it difficult for pedestrians to cross the road safely. Parents/Carers need to stop this immediately and be more considerate to others before a serious accident happens.

Please park safely and considerately, away from the school so we can keep our children safe on their journey to school.

I would advise parents who are unhappy to take a note of the registration number, make and model of these cars and report them to the police, school and Gateshead Council.

We will be liaising with the local Authority parking enforcement team, who have CCTV equipped vehicles. Offenders will be notified, and where appropriate, penalty charge notices will be issued.

Your cooperation with this matter is greatly appreciated, the safety of our children is everyone’s responsibility and only by working together can we ensure that our children travel to and from school as safely as possible.

Yours sincerely

Ms D Thompson
