A postdoctoral research associate position in integrative genomics is available in the Department of Biopharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago for a highly motivated individual to work in an interdisciplinary research environment at the interface of genomics and forensic science.

The postdoctoral research associate will work on integrative approaches to investigate the constituents of local genomic environments, such as primary DNA sequence, protein binding, structure, and methylation patterns, and to identify the ways in which their interactions impact DNA damage and repair pathways. Broad applications of the investigative techniques may include basic questions of evolution, mutation, behavioral traits and forensic DNA analysis.

Duties include:  Perform research experiments in the field of DNA damage and repair.  Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and apply specialized skills to analyze the data.  Participate in manuscript writing for publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentations. May also assist in grant writing.  Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.  Other duties as assigned, which may include attending scientific conferences.

A PhD in a life science and experience with basic molecular techniques are required. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated ability to conduct independent research in molecular biology and participate in interdisciplinary collaborations. Familiarity with high-throughput sequencing applications and a strong publication record are desirable.
