Matters Arising from Previous Minutes - Nil

2. President Matters  Busy period: conference, BMA, Junior doctors’ contract.  Well done to all committee members, everyone is working hard.  Thank you to Amy for all her hard work on the fresher’s fair  Thank you to the ents girls! For all the events they’ve planned and especially for the bar crawl  GMC visit: o Closing date for the questionnaire – 6th of November o Everyone should try and push it as much as possible and encourage as many people to do it, as there hasn’t been a huge number of responses  Curriculum review: o Eugene Lloyd and John Henderson are spearheading the “Dynamic curriculum”. The are going to speak to all year groups in the coming weeks in order to update students, particularly first and second years as they will be the ones affected. o In 2017, the new first year curriculum will be launched and small changes will be implemented to fifth year.

3. Vice President – Amy Samson  General update o Met with course reps, they have all been elected and briefed . They all will be attending the relevant SSLC meetings and I also want to get them involved in the year meetings o Lecture capture for the preclinical years going well in general o For various reasons some first years are just starting first year now… . First year coordinator asks what we could do to help them out . We can send them the fresher’s booklet via email in pdf form o In the process of organising peer mentors . Amy to meet them o International girl with VISA issue to meet with Jags . JC: Existing international students are really keen to help out new international students because they can sympathise o Intercalator parents are difficult to organise because the intercalator lists are not comprehensive . AP – AM to find out about external intercalators so they can be included . Parents can offer guidance and help with revision and exams as well as general support . AP – AS and Ents to liaise, in order to facilitate some kind of evening to bring all intercalators and their parents together (most likely a weekend, as parents may be on placement out of Bristol) o Galenicals Cards . AP – Presidents and Webmaster to organise Galenicals cards

4. Vice President – Andrew Armson  General update o David Cahill’s key agenda is to promote patient safety due to incidents in the past of students inadvertently causing harm to patients . Students are now to write in patient notes that they have seen a patient o Introducing the registration exam at the end of 5th year . Andre Blythe (director of assessments) said the exam is to be paid for by students. . Will not happen until 2021 o Currently organising a “preparing for foundation” event in collaboration with an SJT event on the 5th Jan o Also organising an elective event, targeting 4th years. Should be on a Sunday afternoon . Tentatively: 17th January o WIFI in the academies . Plan to find out about it via survey . Experience of internet in academies:  LN: Gloucester only provides ports (ethernet cables provided) and WIFI for a single device. Some accommodations do not have WIFI. No eduroam in the hospital  LN: In Yeovil, house there is WIFI in the small, however in the bigger accommodation there is no WIFI. So one has to connect to hospital WIFI which frequently times out  TL: Ethernet cable (must pay £5 – reimbursed at the end) no WIFI  AS: In Weston, WIFI for a single device. Must pay £30 upfront for WIFI and you are reimbursed at the end. You also have to provide a £20 deposit for the wireless card. No nearby cashpoint and nearest charges £3 for cash withdrawal  SB: Southmead has WIFI in L&R but no eduroam in Brunel  AM: Bath has single device WIFI but no eduroam in the hospital  EB: Swindon also provides an ethernet cable, possibly also has eduroam in academy

5. Conference Update  Registration 9am on Saturday. Everyone is to be present at 9am!  Welcome and introduction is at 9:30  Treasure hunt: 9:45 – you will be split into teams and mixed up with delegates from the other universities  The Chair of the GMC will give a talk  Dinner: everyone should arrive for 7 for a 7:30 start, everyone to leave the hotel at 10  Breakfast at 10am on Sunday  Alex Hunter – hosting Liverpool 5 & Cardiff 5 total 10  Amy and Andy – 2 Brighton, 5 Leicester  Anjie – 5 Southampton  Jonny Bray – 2 Southampton,  Chloe and Caitlin – 5 from Nottingham  Ollie - 1 Warwick, 1 Barts  Eliane : 6 Birmingham  Grey t-shirts on Saturday not dinner!  Everything looks very good! 7.Updates from committee members  Secretary o General update . BOSS has been revived by Nick Toosi . Newsletter changes – addition of photographs . Still waiting for information on sub-society accounts from sub- society presidents  Treasurer o General update . Reminder for everyone to pay for the conference  Careers o General update . Careers fair, 27th February . No responses so far for sub committee volunteers . AP: CB to send email out and publicise via FB  Charities o General update . Charity money confusion . £750 from Zeshan Quereshi . All sub-society charities have put in proposals for a maximum of £200 per society . LN: why do I have to send to pictures to Zeshan Quereshi? . AS: So ZQ can put it on his website to say “we have sponsored these charities”  Sports o General update . Busy month: Sports club dinner, pre clinical nights . Lots of events to plug via Facebook  Music o General update . Open mic last Thursday . 17/18 acts signed up and many turned up on the night . Very successful evening . Not very many clinical medics due to placements away from Bristol . Plan to do one once a term . Currently planning the Christmas concert – proceeds to charity (music/medical) . Prof Cahill is coming to rehearsal next week . Choir is singing carols for Ronald McDonald house on Thursday 5th of Dec . Choir is also signing at the Medics Christmas party at the start . Music Christmas social on the 13th of December – the day after the concert o CdS: any joint events with the dentists or vets for Christmas? . EB: Yes the medic choir is singing with the vets . EB: the dentists have been contacted but have not responded  Ents o AH/EM: Thank you to all committee members for helping out with the bar crawl, it was a great success! o AH/EM: Christmas party has been booked for 2nd December o AH/EM: already on the look out for place for the spring ball, potential dates are 20th/27th February  International o General update . Took international students on a tour of Bristol in first week . Pub night quiz in a week and a half – 12th of November . Christmas dinner on the last week (AP to check calendar) should be easy mid week as it’s aimed at first and second years . AP – Anjie to make mailing list for international mailing list  Alumni o General update . JB: Churchill JCR considered as potential venue, however it can’t be used at night according to the ward . CdS: JB should be encouraged to reach out to the university alumni committee to donate funds . JB: I spoke to Eugene about a one year reunion for last years graduates to be scheduled for the summer of 2016 – June/July and involve continual professional development with the MDU. Contacted MDU external relations and she said she will forward it on to the right person, still waiting to hear back. . CdS: we have a contact . AP – CdS to give JB the MDU contact . JB: Eugene, wants to get an Foundation year 2 involved with the reunion . JB: Applied to the union earlier this term for a Christmas alumni event, but unfortunately another event has priority . JB: Consequently looked into Saturday next sat was easter – have to be sat . JB: Could perhaps use money from the university to do it at the SSC great Britain . CdS: Do you need money from galenicals? . JB: Not sure, as it is a relatively new role. My predecessors haven’t done any events, hence not sure about how much I may need . AP: TC to contact JB regarding funding . JC: If the union cannot offer you a room, you can apply to other uni venues e.g. Wills or the union will pay for an external venue . CdS: Approach the faculty for funding because they will be motivated to make money from alumni . AP – AA to give JB faculty link . JB: Will continue to look for venue  Shows o General update . OK: Medic drama auditions for medic drama . OK: Having trouble sending emails out . AP – OK to send to AM who will forward on . OK: DHB money still awol . OK: I will speak to the Union and get medic drama listed as an official show so they we priority regarding venue  Webmaster o General update . Conference booklets nearly done . Found an online sport’s shop – that don’t take commission – speaking to the domain people about putting the store under Galenicals domain . SB: Can list a maximum of 30 items . TL: We only have 6 items so it’s not a problem

8. AOB  Dates for the year o None, all already mentioned  Cake Rota o JC to make pineapple cake  Handover meal o CdS: It was after Easter last year, when do we want it this year? . General consensus – yes after Easter
