In the beginning, when the beautiful island of Puerto Rico was created, a glorious bird lived there. But the bird was very vain and haughty, and was mean to other animals. As punishment, he was turned into a tiny colorless frog. He was so repentant for his arrogance that he was given a sweet song to sing every night. To this day, the song of the coquí is recognized and loved by Puerto Ricans everywhere.
