REPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE ON PRE-SCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The Committee on Pre-School Special Education met on May 3 and 24, 2002, to review and initiate the placement of pre-school students with disabilities and April 24, 26, May 1, 3, 8, 10 ,15 and 22, 2002, for the annual review of preschool students with disabilities.

The cumulative totals for the placement of pre-school students in the respective programs and services are enclosed with the resolution. These totals do not include the pre-school students being recommended at this regular meeting.

The Board of Education is required by law to act upon the recommendations made by the Committee on Pre-school Special Education. If no action is taken tonight, the students involved in the recommendations will not begin to receive the services deemed necessary for their education. Furthermore, the parents of the students involved could take legal action against the Board.

This action item was prepared by Mrs. Dorcas Thomas. The recommended resolution was approved by Mr. Angelo Massaro, School District Attorney.

Mr. Myers, Principal on Special Assignment, will answer questions pertaining to this item.

None.

RECOMMENDATION:

A motion is recommended for the approval of the following resolution: Report from the Committee on Pre-School Special Education

WHEREAS, The Committee on Pre-School Special Education officially met on May 3 and 24, 2002, to review and initiate the placement of pre-school students with disabilities and April 24, 26, May 1, 3, 8, 10, 15 and 22, 2002, for the annual review of preschool students with disabilities.

WHEREAS, It is the responsibility of the Committee on Pre-School Special Education to make known its recommendations to the Board of Education; and

WHEREAS, The Board of Education is required by law to take action on the recommendations made by the Committee on Pre-School Special Education; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Board of Education approve the following recommendations made by the Committee on Pre-School Special Education for the placement of students in the following LOCAL SPECIAL EDUCATION programs listed below for the 2001-2002 school year; and

RESOLVED, That the Board of Education approve the following recommendations made by the Committee on Pre-School Special Education by providing Pre-School students with the following SPECIAL SERVICES listed below for the 2001- 2002 school year:

RESOLVED, That the Board of Education approve the following recommendations made by the Committee on Pre-School Special Education for the change of a student’s Individualized Education Program:
