PCHS Course Syllabus Economics

Course Description: An introductory course into the principles of economics. Course topics include: Fundamental Economic Concepts, Microeconomic Concepts, Macroeconomic Concepts, International Economics and Personal Finance Economics.

Textbook Title: Economics: Principles & Practices Cost of Textbook: $63.48

GRADING PROCEDURES: Course with an EOCT Class Work (Including daily work, projects quizzes, tests, and writing exam) 70% Final Exam 10% EOCT 20% *the benchmark exam will count as part of the 2nd 9 weeks grade for semester and year-long courses. The test will be given at the teacher’s convenience during the 9th/10th week for all courses and again at the 26th/27th week for yearlong courses.

COURSE GRADING POLICY FOR BREAKDOWN OF CLASS WORK: Grading System Students may earn grades of up to 100 on a report card but no higher. A...... 90 - 100 1 B...... 80 - 89 C...... 70 - 79 F...... below 70 All grades on the report card are numerical.

Tests - 60% Projects – 25% Daily Assignments – 15%

Lunch Detention : All assignments will be expected to be completed. Teachers will assign students’ academic lunch detention to get work that would be given a zero. Students will attend academic lunch detention until missing work is turned in. Major Test Re-takes: Students will have the option to take 3 exam re-takes. Retakes will only be offered to students who makes higher than a 50 on the original test. However, the student will be given a remediation assignment to be completed before the exam re-take is given. This assignment must be signed by the parent and returned to the teacher on the day of the exam re-take. The exam given for this purpose will be an alternate exam over the same content as the original exam. The student will be expected to schedule the re-take exam outside of scheduled class time. No quiz or common assessment re-takes will be allowed.

EXAM EXEMPTIONS: All students will be required to take the EOC for courses in which it applies. Students may exempt the final exam (1 semester courses) or 1st semester posttest (yearlong courses) for a course in the following way:  A student must have an average of 70 or above  Miss no more than 2 days per semester  To exempt a final exam in an EOC subject, a student must have passed the EOC for that subject.

MAJOR PROJECTS OR ASSIGNMENTS AND DUE DATES: Students will receive project assignments at a later date. A major project may count as two test grades.

ASSIGNMENTS: A. Communicating assignments: Assignments will be announced and posted in class. B. Grading criteria: Rubrics will be given for each project and any unusual criteria will be announced in advance. C. Standards for form: 1. Students will always have a pencil or pen 2. Students will have notebook paper 3. Incomplete work – students will automatically receive 10 points off any incomplete work. 4. Late work – I will not accept late work unless the student has extenuating circumstances. D. Makeup work: 1. Completion time: students will have 3 days to complete all makeup with an excuse.

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS: 1. Be respectful.

2. Be responsible. (Bring all materials to class)

3. Stay quiet during instructional time unless called upon.

4. Follow all school rules and procedures according to handbook.

2 VIDEOS: As supplementary materials the following videos may be shown to the students during the course of the year, after finals, and the End of Course test or if a substitute is necessary. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about the movies listed below.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES: A. Beginning of Period

1. Attendance: follow all school attendance policies. High attendance is directly tied to high achievement.

2. Previously absent students/Makeup work: You have 3 days to turn in make-up work.

3. Tardy Students: Students must be in their seat and ready to work when the bell rings.

4. What students do at the beginning of the period: Students need to have their required materials out and ready for instruction at the beginning of the period. Students should begin bell ringer or opening assignment.

B. Materials and Equipment

1. What to bring to class: Students need a three-ring binder or folder, pencils, and paper for every class unless previously told otherwise.

2. Other classroom equipment: students will treat all equipment with respect and not use computers or other equipment unless given permission.

3. Teacher materials and equipment: Do not touch any teacher materials or belongings. Only use supplies from student work area.

C. Ending the period

1. Dismissal: students will clean their area daily and straighten desks before dismissal. Do not pack materials until told to do so.

D. Procedures for Seatwork

1. Talking: students should try to maintain a low level of noise and only discuss work.

2. Out of Seat: Students should not be out of their seats unless getting supplies.

3. Testing Procedures: Do not talk during testing. If any student is caught cheating, they will receive a zero on the test.

4. Group Discussion Procedures: When the class is participating in a group discussion, remain quiet until it is your turn to speak. Be respectful of other people’s opinions and time to speak.
