Name: John Charles Morris

Hello Iris,

I have had a few attempts at writing a resume that you and your team may glean the necessary information about me from – but maybe this one is the best. Boring stuff first:

Name: John Charles Morris AKA: Jonno, JC Nationality: British Age: 55 DoB: 11.4.1954 Marital status: Married (To my third wife, who is Cantonese & doesn’t speak English very well) Driver: UK licence for any motorcycle, car, small lorry (Up to 7.5 tons) + various other contraptions. Work: Retired = busier than ever! Location: Has lived in Guangdong Province, China for 7 years to date, and has no intention to leave Languages: British English and Cantonese. I can also say hello in a dozen ‘world’ languages, and am quite good at international Spanish.

Hobbies: Website design & implementation, playing a battered old 12 string guitar quite badly, writing about my life in China

Interests: Literature, movies, and especially music (I am a singer/songwriter in my spare time) + free-thinker

Literature: The Gap Series (Steven Donaldson), Richard 111 (Wm. Shakespeare), The Haunting of Toby Jugg (Denis Wheatley) Music: The Great Society (Grace Slick and the original ‘White Rabbit’), The Outlaws (Soldiers of Fortune), The Cure (Live: L’Orange), Pattie Smith (RE Live + ‘Piss Factory’ of course), BBKing (Thrill is Gone), Beyond, Sade (Pearls, Mi Timor) + a lot of Chinese stuff and more Arts: Monet, Epstein, Andy Warhol Sports: Watching; Formula 1, Cricket, Rugby Union, squash. Sports: Playing; Squash, Cricket, Darts, Pool, Rally Racing (Off road in very fast cars)

Ambitions: To see the sun rise tomorrow…

Education: The usual stuff, but found it all very boring – Well, it was the 60’s after all! Eventually made it to University at age 48, and it was easy and a lot of fun (Programming mobile phones, with websites as my second). The social was a hoot, and I should have done it whilst I was younger. Came to China as my Placement year – and never went back!

Career Highlights:  Ran a UK Company for 7 years (My own). Created the first mobile tyre service that was radio controlled in UK – Circa early 70’s. My first ‘Pye’ set was driven by ‘valves’. Uggg!  Sold this out for substantial profit, and joined the Ministry of Defence Police for 10 years. You may infer I am an unlikely candidate for such a position, but the pay was excellent, and I later specialised in Very serious fraud cases – which does require artistic talent and understanding of others motivations.

1  Then I spent 4-years off with a serious back problem = 2 major surgeries, and walking 10 paces was an achievement. It changes how you see the world, especially considering: o I went to the bedroom to change my jeans, bent over, and the next thing I know I am on the floor, paralysed from the shoulders down. My 2nd wife was in bed, and as soon as she realised something very serious had happened, she said “You’ve ruined everything”. Then she got dressed and went to have coffee with a friend – leaving me confused and lying on the bedroom floor. This taught me a lot about people and their true motivations. However, it is not a problem, and we are still ‘friends’-ish.  I Spent 6-months in a total body cast after the second op, and needed someone else to clean my behind when I semi- sat on the toilet. Uggg! But let’s move on … as I am now very fit once again, and have been so for the last 17 years.  There is a point you reach during a life, so eloquently expressed in ‘Shawshank Redemption’ by Red (Morgan Freeman). “Get busy living, or get busy dying”. I met this face to face in my own small life, and chose to live.  Therefore I did ‘Security’ for a while, and later became a Carpenter for exhibition work, which was extremely physically demanding = proved my points of total physical recovery. It was about ten years from the start of my back problem to full recovery. It took me a year as Chippie, but I finally became a preferred contractor (As all I started with were good DIY skills) … and then I got bored, and got totally stuffed by the girl who lived with me at the time, and having had my life destroyed again, I opted for University. I had a small pension from UK gov, so no problemo.  And the rest is Chinese history

I did write this quite eloquently once before, but then Microsoft kindly inflicted my pc with ‘TBSofD’ (The Black Screen of Death = Windows XP SP 3 version). This is a ‘pagefile’ problem. I hope this will suffice for your needs if I add a small encore…

My Father is English (Saxon), whilst my Mother is Irish (Mourne). I am socially very acceptable in virtually all circumstances. However, I do value my personal time to great extent. I am very happy with computer coding and equally happy creatively. However, it is seldom I can do either at the same time, or within the same moment. This is an Irish trait

You must be very bored by now, so I will finish this rambling here. Also know you are welcome to ask more and I will supply by return of email

Thank you for your interest in my small life + best wishes Jonno
