Job Title: Oasis Farm Waterloo: Farm Hand Team: Oasis Church Waterloo

Location: Oasis Farm Waterloo, 20 Carlisle Lane, London SE17LG

Hours: Casual hours, based on a rota arrangement

Unsocial Working: Weekends and or evenings and early mornings.

Responsible to: Farm Manager

Pay: £10 per hour

Oversight of: Volunteers working at Oasis Farm Waterloo

Job Purpose: To ensure the safety and security and a quality experience for all visitors to Oasis Farm To oversee that volunteers adhere to set standards and procedures To facilitate operations on the farm including animal care and horticulture To support volunteers in accordance with the ethos and values of Oasis

Organisational Context The Farm Hand role will operate within the Oasis Church Waterloo Team which currently serves Oasis Academy Johanna, Oasis Academy South Bank as well as a variety of integrated and diverse community projects with the common aim of bringing benefit to the whole person and transforming the experience of local community. The Farm is run in partnership with Jamies Farm.

Postholders will work under the direction of the Farm Manager to ensure that Oasis Farm Waterloo is meeting it’s 5 objectives of:  Providing exceptional educational experiences to the public  Showcasing an exemplar city farm including sustainable agricultural systems  Generating funding for the farm  Giving volunteers a safe and structured work experience  Creating an inclusive quality community asset

Areas of responsibility and specific duties

Strategy/Planning/Organising  Participate in a rota shift pattern to ensure timely delivery for community access to the farm  Ensure the set daily farm duties are carried out for the wellbeing of visitors, animals and plants  Ensure the security, hygiene and cleanliness of the whole farm at all times by following agreed procedures  To greet all visitors and offer farm information in a welcoming and inclusive manner  Complete necessary records of activity including enquiry forms, accident records, timesheets etc

Physical Activities  Participate in set up and close down for public access including animal pens, setting out tables, chairs and any associated practical preparations  Ensure any items requiring replenishment are attended to, for example hand wash area / feedback forms  To provide any practical assistance to families as necessary eg buggy transfer, wheelchair management  Receiving and processing deliveries which could include heavy items

Analytical/Creative Thinking/Problem Solving  To advise the Farm Manager on customer feedback  To respond to disruptive behaviour from members of the public in accordance with ethos and procedures

People Management  To support volunteers working at Oasis Farm Waterloo

Other responsibilities  To ensure that all health and safety checks are carried out for human and animal feed.  To facilitate new stock arriving on site, ensuring any mess is cleared and chilled/frozen stock is dealt with in the correct way  To ensure accuracy when dealing with cash

Essential Desirable Job knowledge/experience Proven experience working in Knowledge and experience a public facing customer of horticulture. service environment Knowledge and experience Proven experience of site of animal care. security and key handling. Knowledge and experience Proven experience handling of agriculture and and dealing with money. sustainability.

Knowledge of Manual Knowledge of environmental Handling requirements health issues relevant to the farm

Experience within an educational setting.

First Aid at Work certification (or prepared to take appropriate training)

Skills Good inter-personal skills Experience in animal and plant care. Ability to relate to a diverse customer base of all ages Practical problem solver for on the spot repairs. Good communication skills (oral/written) Ability to drive own / hire car
