DEADLINE FOR PROPOSALS: Thursday, November 15, 2012

The Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit, worldwide organization. A model of positive leadership and advocacy, the work of the MCEC is focused on ensuring quality educational opportunities for all military-connected children affected by mobility, family separation, and transition. The MCEC performs research, conducts professional institutes and conferences, and develops and publishes resources for all constituencies. The MCEC focus is on all military installations, their supporting schools, concerned organizations, and caring individuals.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PRESENTERS:  Email presentation proposals to [email protected]  No fax or mailed copies of proposals will be accepted.  You will be contacted by email upon receipt of your proposal.  Concurrent sessions will be 1 hour in length.  General Session Speakers and Distinguished Lecturers will be invited by the MCEC.  Most communication with the MCEC staff will be done by email. Please ensure that we have your current email address at all times.  Marketing of any products or services during sessions is prohibited.  We appreciate all presenter submissions. However, some may not be selected as 2013 seminar presentations. If your proposal is accepted:

o Speakers will be notified no later than January 4, 2013. If you do not receive notification, please contact Carrie Garlick at [email protected]. o The Lead Presenter will be responsible for notifying co-presenters regarding the status of the proposal and date, time, and location of the presentation.

All Rights Reserved o All presenters are expected to register for the 2013 National Training Seminar. An online registration link will be forwarded to you and must be completed within 2 weeks of notification of acceptance of your proposal. The registration fee for the lead presenter is $250 and full payment must be completed along with your online registration. Each co-presenter will be registered at the 2013 MCEC National Training Seminar “Early Bird” registration rate.* Co-presenter registration must be completed and paid in full within 30 days. The registration fee includes access to all NTS sessions and five meals during the two day seminar. *The 2013 NTS registration rates, including the Early Bird registration rate, will be finalized in November 2012.

o All presenters must submit a high resolution jpeg file (300 dpi) photo within 30 days suitable for use on the MCEC website and in other 2013 NTS marketing publications. Please submit to [email protected] .

o All travel and lodging costs are the presenter’s responsibility.

o One copy of each handout that will be used in the presentation must be forwarded to MCEC by June 1, 2013. Presenters are responsible for duplicating and providing copies of any handouts given to participants during the session.

o Presenters must submit an electronic version of all presentation materials (slides, video clips, brochures, etc.) by June 1, 2013 to [email protected]. All session presentation materials will be posted to the MCEC website and available for download following the conclusion of the 2013 National Training Seminar.

o Presenters agree to cite all appropriate sources and receive permissions with regard to the materials used in the session, and agree to adhere to the MCEC policy prohibiting commercialism in presentations.

o Upon acceptance of proposals, the Military Child Education Coalition is hereby authorized to record and/or publish any material presented during this session at the 2013 National Training Seminar: Military Children- Our Nation’s Treasure

o Presenters authorize the MCEC to record, reproduce, and distribute video/audio of this session.

o Presenters waive any rights to fees and royalties associated with the printed or recorded reproduction and distribution of these materials.

Overview: MCEC 2013 National Training Seminar Presentation Themes, Strands & Topics

2013 THEME: … for the sake of the child

The MCEC 2013 National Training Seminar theme can be interpreted many ways and the Call for Presenter Committee will consider presentation proposals (individuals or teams) for a concurrent session on any topic of interest to the MCEC audience. However, preference will be given to sessions focusing on one of the categories of presentation strands listed below. With an emphasis on measurable results while demonstrating effectiveness and relevance, selected proposals will move beyond entry-level awareness and should offer the audience innovative ideas, active hands-on learning, and share critical information relevant to the professional development of educators and military professionals who are dedicated to serving the military- connected child.

2013 PRESENTATION STRANDS:  Family Dynamics- Healthy Families, Hardy Kids Potential topics: School transitions; Children who learn differently; Grief and loss; Lessons learned; Resurgence & renewal; Disengaged parenting; Rebuilding bonds after separation; Abuse & neglect; Parenting & caregivers.

 Igniting the Spark- Challenge, Create, Connect Potential Topics: Legacy of service; Contributions to society; Youth leadership & empowerment; Fabulous “firsts”; Family & community involvement; Living and learning across a lifetime; Extra curricula, igniting talent and creativity, helping kids take educational risks.

 Innovations & Issues- What’s Trending in Education Potential Topics: School transitions; Children who learn differently; Curriculum & testing; Technology applications; Professional developments & networking, School/college & career readiness; Nutrition; Sleep studies; Anti- bullying; Home schooling & charter schools, global competition, interactive museums, flipped classrooms.

 Partnerships & Policies- Collaborate, Advocate & Sustain Potential Topics: School & military partnerships, Local action plan efforts, Business & community partnerships, Legislation & Initiatives.

As an accredited organization, the Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) is required to obtain complete data regarding the scope, objectives, and outcomes from each participating speaker. We ask that this information is submitted with your proposal to be a session presenter for the MCEC 2013 National Training Seminar. Note: The MCEC is an authorized provider for the International Association for Continuing Education Training (IACET), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), as well as several state agencies. These multiple avenues of accreditation make the recognition of MCEC Continuing Education Credits for Graduate Credits acceptable to nearly all school districts. If your presentation proposal is accepted, MCEC may need you to provide additional professional resume documentation in support of this accreditation.
