A copy of the action plan will be provided to the LA AYP staff who nominated the tutor and they should support the tutor to find appropriate other tutors to work with to support their development. This action plan will focus on the individual continuing to develop their skills so that they can progress through the tutor training levels.

Page 2 of 6 These courses are designed to familiarise a tutor with the content and issues on a particular subject course. Tutors should attend the Coach Educator course before the subject familiarisation tutor course. Advanced Tutor Workshops (CPD) These are short courses that focus on the development of particular tutoring skills. This could be effective questioning, effective listening, effective feedback, learning styles, managing diversity, sharing good practice, etc. Typically, a number of courses will be run on the same day as a Tutor development day.

Anyone who is actively tutoring will be sent information on upcoming courses and can attend these modules to further develop their skills. ASSESSMENT

Page 3 of 6 All tutors and trainers are subject to an assessment following their initial training. For tutors that have attended the SCUK Tutor Training and are registered for the qualification, a successful assessment must be completed in order to be signed off. The initial assessment should normally take place within 6 months of completion of the Subject Familiarisation training course.

Visits could also be triggered:

 At the request of the tutor or trainer or the LA AYP staff  As a result of evidence suggesting the need for intervention or support  As a result of evidence of excellent practice that can be observed, celebrated and shared.

The key purpose of this process is quality improvement. Assessments should be objective, supportive, and developmental and provide a positive learning experience. Most assessments are announced in advance, and the assessor will discuss the visit in advance with the tutor or trainer. Where available, the assessor will have with them supporting evidence which will contain a post training action plan.

The assessment will be paid by SPORT WALES but other costs should be met by the local authority.

Process 1. To nominate someone for or request an assessment the LA AYP OR NGB staff or trainer should complete a Assessment request form, giving at least 6 weeks notice of when the QI visit should take place. 2. Sport Wales will then confirm the asessment with the tutor and assessor and send any relevant documentation.

ACCREDITED PRIOR LEARNING

Tutoring Sometimes an individual will have gained experience or qualified as a tutor under a different system. Where this is an accredited system that also fits the national standards framework, the tutor will be accepted as able to operate at that level. For example, an individual could transfer to the equivalent level from a ScUK tutor or from the PESSCl framework in England. Also, a tutor may be able to provide evidence to support their level of competence. For example someone who has been a PE advisor or lecturer in teacher training may be able to go straight to emerging national trainer level. Alternatively, it may be necessary for a QI visit to take place to view the tutor working to make a judgement about their fit to national standards.

Subject Occasionally someone at Advanced Tutor level or above may not need to attend the subject familiarisation tutor course. This would occur where an individual is able to show they have detailed subject knowledge. For example, a long standing governing body coach or someone who has taught the subject for a number of years. They would normally have also attended the subject audience course.
