SAINT PAUL, MN – As Minnesota enters the dead of winter, Landmark Center in Downtown Saint Paul is looking forward to sunny days and is pleased to announce their 2011 spring programs. The spring season will bring a variety of programs to Landmark Center including, courtroom concerts by The Schubert Club, a St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and globe-trotting Urban Expedition programs. In addition, many exhibits and museums in Landmark Center will welcome new exhibits including The Gallery of Wood Arts. Featured Events

 Urban Expedition Escape to a warmer climate and celebrate different cultures around the world through Landmark Center’s popular globe-trotting series, Urban Expedition. Named “Best Global Tour” by Minnesota Monthly, Urban Expedition allows families to “travel the world without leaving Saint Paul” through music, dance, food and arts and crafts. All programs are from 1pm-3pm and are FREE and open to the public. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Hallie Q. Brown Food Shelf. .  The Schubert Club continues its Courtroom Concert Series with a focus on “Strings and Things.” The concerts held every Thursday feature local performing artists of the highest caliber from the Twin Cities and surrounding metropolitan area, as well as occasional musical newcomers to the area.  Landmark Center in partnership with the Irish Music and Dance Association will host their annual Irish Day of Dance on March 13th (11am – 5pm) and St. Patrick’s Day Celebration (10am – 5pm) on March 17th. Take in all things Irish at these can’t miss events, featuring regional and local Irish entertainment, Irish Dance, Celtic vendors, Irish cuisine, pipe bands and more! Enjoy one of St. Paul’s best traditions! Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for children and senior citizens.

 Landmark Center’s increasingly popular lunchtime series, Ballet Tuesday continues throughout the spring and will feature excerpts from Cinderella. All programs begin at 12pm and are FREE and open to the public. o Performance Dates: . March 8th . April 12th

Museums & Exhibits

 The Gallery of Wood Art presents, Roots – An Artist’s Journey (March 1st – June 19th). Fifth in a series of invitational exhibits by an international roster of professional artists, this year’s theme invites artists to explore the evolution of their work and lives.  Experience The Schubert Club Museum. The museum takes visitors through sequential exhibits, beginning with keyboard evolution and continuing to music boxes and phonographs, Franz Schubert and the Austrian “lieder” and recital traditions, composer manuscripts and experimental instruments.  Explore “Uncle Sam Worked Here” exhibit! An interactive, interpretive exhibit that gives visitors a glimpse into federal courts, wartime activities, prohibition, immigration and more that occurred in Landmark Center. Self-guided and guided tours are available during building hours. For tour information call 651-292-3230.

 Learn about the history of Landmark Center. A Landmark Reclaimed: from Federal Building to Community Icon is an exhibit that chronicles the history of Landmark Center and the people who made it the community building it is today.

 Ramsey County Historical Society presents Health in my Hometown a Youth Photovoice Project (on display through April 1st). The exhibit features the work of youth photographers from Minneapolis, St. Paul and Dakota County who participated in the statewide Youth Photovoice project. The project trained youth from 13 communities across Minnesota to use cameras in order tell the story of what makes their communities healthy. Participants look critically at their surroundings to find the assets and barriers to a healthy lifestyle, questioning why these issues exist and what changes should be made. The exhibit celebrates the Photovoice project and features the photographs and stories of participants from the metro area. RCHS is pleased to co-sponsor this exhibit with the Minnesota Department of Health and the Ramsey County Department of Health. For more information please visit www.rchs.com.

 Settle in to the Ramsey County Historical Society’s Research Center and discover the history of your house, your neighborhood, and Ramsey County, by exploring building permits, business and church records, and stories of those who lived here since before Minnesota was a state.  Landmark Center offers a variety of public and specialized building tours for individuals, families, schools and groups. Guided building tours are offered every Thursday at 11am and Sunday at 12pm. Landmarket Gift Shop This charming corner store, tucked away in Landmark Center's first floor, features gifts, historical items, jewelry, souvenirs, cards, glassware and much more.
