Re.: The BSCI Greeting Letter for Producers monitored against “industrial methodology” – An Introduction towards engaging in the new BSCI Code of Conduct

Dear ______,

On behalf of COMPANY NAME, I would like to welcome you to work with us towards ensur- ing our business ventures continue to be defined by socially responsible purchasing practices.

As you might well be aware, our company participates in the Business Social Compliance Ini- tiative (BSCI). This initiative, which was launched in 2003 by the Foreign Trade Association (FTA) www.fta-intl.org, was established as a response to increasing business demands for transparent and improved working conditions in global supply chains. It unites more than 1,300 companies from around the world whose activities range from retail to importing to branding. You can find out more about the BSCI at www.bsci-intl.org.

As a BSCI Participant, our company is committed to the values and principles set out in the BSCI Code of Conduct and to meeting, within our sphere of influence, our responsibility to respect hu- man rights. In this regard, it remains fundamental to our company’s approach to integrate the BSCI Code of Conduct, when doing business with all partners regardless of where they source in the world.

The BSCI Code of Conduct version 1/2014 took effect 1 January, 2014, alongside capacity building activities worldwide, which continue to aim at ensuring that new practical implications are fully understood. For this reason, I would like to share with you the corresponding official BSCI documents:

o BSCI Code of Conduct version 1/2014 o BSCI Terms of Implementation for Producers o BSCI Reference: Compilation of International Standards relevant for the implementation of the Code such as ILO Conventions and Recommendations o BSCI Glossary, which is a set of definitions applicable in the context of the BSCI

On behalf of COMPANY NAME, I invite you to review the attached documentation in full and to pay particular attention to the Terms of Implementation for Producers.

If you have received this letter, it means that your company is subject to the BSCI monit- oring process using the “industrial methodology”.

As a first step, we would like to ask that the relevant representative of your senior manage- ment sign and return to us the Terms of Implementation to, like us, agree to abide by, and commit to, the BSCI values and principles as well as take the necessary steps to prepare for an eventual BSCI Audit.

If you have been already audited against the BSCI Code of Conduct version 2009, please note that this will no longer be possible after 30 April 2015 and you will need to start a new audit cycle against the new Code between May 2015 and 31 December 2016. The work and the improvements you have achieved until now in response to the Code of Conduct version 2009 have not been in vain, Company Logo

but rather represent the foundations on which to consolidate your development. The BSCI Code (1/2014) is an opportunity to enlarge your sustainability goals and position your company as a leader.

If you have never been audited, you may wish to use 2014 and the first 4 months of 2015 as an opportunity to learn more about the new principles and to participate in the different workshops that BSCI offers for producers to prepare your colleagues and company for the new Code.

We encourage you to set the necessary management systems and procedures in place to align your business practices to the BSCI Code expectations as well as to cascade or disseminate its principles to your business partners.

We hold the principles and values of the BSCI Code of Conduct in high regard and we integ- rate them as part of our sourcing practices and regard them as a prerequisite for further developing our business relationships.

On behalf of COMPANY NAME, I would like to express our trust that you are also driven by the same principles of responsible business and count on your support in this unique opportunity of making our supply chains more sustainable. We have great expectations to deepen our business part- nerships by means of constructive dialogue and cooperation.

Upon receiving this letter, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I would be pleased to receive any feedback you might have and/or respond to any questions regarding the BSCI and the path ahead. We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Sincerely,

______
