4. Actions from February Meeting a) Margaret F. Erin Lee Marcotte, Michael Stanley, Harold Hess will draft letter to UCDSB related to school closures (see 6 a)

For Discussion/Information/P.D. a) Harwood Conversations An introductory video was shared. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMfAC-CQlZA Melissa, Harold and Margaret F. lead the group through an abbreviated Harwood community conversation. Melissa will compile information and share at April meeting along with previous priorities identified through community conversations three years ago.

6. For Discussion/Decision

a) Approval of Letter to UCDSB related to School Closures

Recommendation -- A meeting will be set up with UCDSB Board Chair and/or Director with focus on how community partners can support the Board. Margaret F. will send out some key talking points in advance. These will emphasize community use of schools/community hubs. Co-chairs (Lorena and Jane) will determine who should meet with UCDSB.

b) Guthrie House/Bartholomew Street Hubs – what have we learned? Next Steps Members reviewed the report prepared by Marty Crapper on the Guthrie House Hub. (posted)

Every Kid in Our Communities….. Leeds and Grenville Margaret Fancy Coordinator Hubs must serve all ages, with a variety of services/support. On-site service navigator is key.

Kristina Hubert provided a power point update on the Bartholomew Hub (attached). The after school program and recreational activities were highlighted.

The hub is looking for ways to support tenant engagement. Please contact Kristina at [email protected])

Tom Jordan suggested that hub might want to take advantage of school newsletters to promote family engagement.

c) Canada Learning Bond – How can we increase uptake? (Loretta) Loretta reported that 8000 LG children are eligible for the Canada Learning Bond; as of December 2016 only 8 were signed up. How can we increase those numbers? Action: members are to go back and discuss with staff… what resources are needed/what is a reasonable target individually/collectively? The idea of a contest/challenge was presented. Loretta offered to make lunch for 6 for the winners… we need to establish the criteria for “winning” A “maze” and tax information are posted on the EKIOC website for community use. Loretta also informed members of the National Poverty Reduction Conference to be held on April 4 to 6 in Hamilton http://events.tamarackcommunity.ca/crp

7. For Information a) Homeward Bound (Loretta) The program is up and running. Registration for the first round of participants is closed. It was decided to keep the first group small in size. Another intake will open in September.

c) Healthy Communities Partnership (Lois Dewey) Lois highlighted the Nature 4Life messages related to importance of getting outside/physical activity. Michael Chang who is a leading expert on screen time/physical activity will be presenting in LLG on November 2. Information to follow. Lois shared the video developed for Nature4Life. d) Other updates/ PD opportunities Triple P – (Gwendy Lapp) For the Triple P training we are bringing to Brockville, please see attached the Level 3 training Parent Information sheet (titled: Primary Care) and Decision Tree.
