May 11, 2012 Dear Parent/Guardians:

We are extremely proud of our eighth grade students here at Franklin Middle School. As our school year comes to a close, there are several exciting eighth grade events scheduled. We have provided a schedule and explanation of each event below.

8 th Grade Field Trip – Tuesday, June 5, 2012 (7:30 AM – 5:30 PM) Final Payment, permission slips and waivers were due by Friday, April 29th. There is limited space for additional students on a first come first served basis. Please contact Ms. Gadek for further information.

Students who have submitted their payment and have exhibited appropriate behavior during the 2011-2012 school year are invited to attend the trip. We will leave FMS at 7:30 AM and travel to Black Bear Lake in Millstone Township. There is no need for students to bring cash for the cost of admission and food because it has already been paid. Students are permitted to bring electronic equipment with them on the bus. The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

 What to bring: Sunscreen, one-piece bathing suit that is moderate for swimming in the lake or pool, towel, hat, sunglasses, and extra t-shirts and shorts if needed.  All students attending the trip must have a student id with them in order to board the bus.

Please make arrangements to pick up your child promptly at 5:30 PM when students are scheduled to return.

 Students who have exhibited inappropriate, irresponsible and/or disrespectful behavior at various times throughout the 2011-2012 school year will not be permitted to attend the trip, in which case, an administrator will notify those Parents/Guardians. A full school day with regular class periods will be provided for students who are not attending the trip.

7 th & 8 th Grade Awards Assembly – June 11, 2012 (6:30 PM) Students chosen to receive awards for academic and other accomplishments will be recognized at a special ceremony on Monday, June 11th at FMS in the auditorium. Parents/Guardians of those students will receive a mailed invitation requesting their attendance at this event. Appropriate academic dress is expected. 8th Grade Dance – June 15, 2012 (7:00 PM – 10:00 PM)

Students who do not attend Franklin Middle School and who are not 8th graders are not permitted to attend.

 Advice – This dance is not a prom or formal event. Students are encouraged to dress for a special occasion (no shorts or jeans). There should be no limousines, gowns, or tuxedos for this event and doors will close at 8:00 PM.  Any student who receives ISS or OSS from June 1st to June 15th will not be permitted to attend the dance. Any payments will be not refunded.  All students attending the dance must have a student id with them in order to enter the dance.  On the morning of the dance, any student who has to leave the building to make hair and other appointments for the dance, must be present at school for four hours before they can leave the school (7:30-11:30am). Any student who attempts to come to school on the day of the dance after 12:00pm will not be permitted to attend the dance.
