Baby Maureen doesn’t have any friends so she makes imaginary ones and mom gives her special treatments because she feels bad for her. Mom and Dad find ways to withdraw money from the bank at the same time. Rex’s drinking gets worse, has an outburst at mass because he was drunk. The kids each had a dollar to spend at the thrift shop for Christmas and a tree salesman sells them a Christmas tree for only a dollar. Mom gets dad a lighter for Christmas, he uses it to set the tree on fire and ruins all of the presents. For Jeannette’s birthday she asks Rex to give up drinking and he does. Family goes to the Grand Canyon for vacation, car breaks down and they have to leave it there. They move to West Virginia where Rex’s family is and mom buys a new car. They move in with Rex’s family and his mom is really strict. The kids are enrolled in a new school and Jeannette is beat up again.
