GOURDINE OF 12 BERKELEY COUNTY FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE 13 AS A MEMBER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES 14 SINCE 1997 UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT 15 FROM THE HOUSE AND TO EXTEND TO HIM EVERY BEST 16 WISH IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS. 17 18 Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives have 19 learned with deep regret that the Honorable Amos L. Gourdine 20 will be retiring at the end of his term this year from the House; and 21 22 Whereas, Amos Gourdine has served his district and Berkeley 23 County with ability and distinction since the time he first joined 24 the House in 1997; and 25 26 Whereas, Amos and his lovely wife, Helen, reside in Pineville, and 27 they are blessed with four wonderful children: Danita, Angela, 28 Alfrida, and Olivia; and 29 30 Whereas, he is a native of Pineville, is a retired officer with the 31 Department of Natural Resources, and attended both Trident 32 Technical College and Charleston Southern University; and 33 34 Whereas, Amos Gourdine is an influential member of the House 35 Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environmental Affairs 36 Committee where he used his prior experience with the 37 Department of Natural Resources to be an effective voice for the 38 preservation of this state’s outstanding natural resources which are 39 a legacy for generations to come; and 40 41 Whereas, in addition to his service in the House, he served his 42 country with honor, valor, and courage as a member of this

1 [5351] 1 1 nation’s armed services in the Republic of Vietnam from 2 1965-1966; and 3 4 Whereas, he has also been an active community leader in his 5 native Pineville and in Berkeley County; and 6 7 Whereas, it will be hard to replace this outstanding public servant, 8 and all his colleagues in the House and in state government want 9 him to know that their best wishes go with him as he enters a new 10 phase of his life. Now, therefore, 11 12 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 13 14 That the members of the House of Representatives commend the 15 Honorable Amos L. Gourdine of Berkeley County for his 16 distinguished service as a member of the House of Representatives 17 since 1997 upon the occasion of his retirement from the House and 18 extend to him every best wish in all his future endeavors. 19 20 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 21 the Honorable Amos L.
