The Treaty of Versailles: Bitter Fruits

The armistices (cease-fire) ended World War I on November 11, 1918 at 11 a.m. The Treaty of Versailles was negotiated in January of 1919. This treaty ended a conflict that had killed over 8.5 million men and wounded over 21 million men. While this was suppose to be a lasting peace and “the war to end all wars,” the results of the treaty are said to have laid the seeds for World War II. The Germans especially felt a bitter sense of resentment at the results of the peace treaty.
