Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration Mechanic III

QUALIFICATIONS 1 High School diploma or equivalent or special diploma required. . 2 Five (5) years’ documented experience in the installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of . HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls systems. A one (1) year HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls certificate from an accredited trade school may be substituted for one of the five years of experience. 3 An Associate’s degree in HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls may be substituted for two (2) years of the five years . of experience. 4 Must obtain an EPA approved CFC Universal certification within 90 days of employment if not certified at . time of employment if serving in a refrigerant handling capacity. 5 Valid Florida Driver License. .

Job Goal

To install and assist Level IV Mechanics in the areas of installation, operation, maintenance and repair of HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls equipment and its associated energy management equipment and related controls systems of various types.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Working knowledge of the standards, practices, methods, tools, and materials associated with the HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls trades. Working knowledge of HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls and peripheral equipment and have the ability to make the necessary repairs/installations/modifications when appropriate. Must have the ability to do job/project take-offs, prepare parts and materials lists, plan and coordinate personnel in order to complete assigned tasks. Must have the ability to read, interpret, and understand design drawings and schematics relative to the HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls industry. Ability to process work-orders electronically. Must have the ability to write and maintain reports when necessary.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Perform installations, modifications, and repairs to various types of HVAC equipment such as DX cooling/heating systems, chilled/hot Water cooling/heating systems, air handling units, cooling towers, reciprocating and centrifugal chillers, dehumidifying systems, refrigeration systems, and various types of related controls systems. 2. Perform complete overhauls of compressors by replacing rings, bearings, crankshafts, pistons, rods, valves, etc. 3. Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of components and subassemblies related to HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls Systems such as various types of fans, fan motors, compressors, pumps, associated piping (water/fluids), pilot lights, burners, combustion controls, thermostats, damper actuators, modems, etc. 4. Perform minor repairs to HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls equipment such as replacing drive belts, lube fan/motor bearings, replace blower assemblies, safety valves, replace thermostats, replace damper actuator motors, etc. 5. Perform and assist in troubleshooting malfunctioning or inoperative HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls equipment using meters, gauges, and other appropriate devices. 6. Take and record readings such as temperatures, pressures, humidity, air/water/fluid velocities, cfm, gpm, and lbs when appropriate. 7. Collect oil and water samples of various types when appropriate respective to the HVAC/Refrigeration/Controls for analysis. 8. Read and understand occupational hazards literature and follow all safety precautions necessary to perform work in these trades. 1 9. Able to work independently with occasional assistance in two of the following areas and able to assist in the others: areas of air conditioning, refrigeration, boilers, and controls. 1 Provide on-call services pursuant to the on-call schedule. 0. 1 Perform other duties as assigned commensurate with the skills and abilities of the position. 1. 1 Provide outstanding customer service and use positive interpersonal communications skills. 2. 1 Make all decisions and perform all tasks in accordance with Brevard Public Schools’ Organizational Values. 3. 1 Ensure compliance with Board rules and applicable federal laws and regulations. 4.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS Heavy Work: Exerts up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects.
