McMILLAN NURSERY SCHOOL
APPLICATION INFORMATION & APPLICATION FORM
McMillan Nursery School currently offers : Childcare places (Currently 8.30am-3.15pm school term times) Nursery School places (open 8.30am – 3.15pm school term times)
Places: Up to 32 Full-time Childcare Places for children aged 2-5 years Up to 156 part-time Nursery School places for children aged 3-5 years
Funding and entitlement:
Children aged 2-3 Childcare for 2 year olds is not yet an entitlement, however there is currently government funding for many 2 year olds who meet the agreed criteria – eligibility checking and application for this is online, please ask Reception for more details. You may also be entitled to funding if you are on a training course, entitled to benefits or tax credits etc. Please talk to the Reception, Nursery or Family Support staff for more information about this. We currently have one class which offers places for 2-3 year olds.
Children aged 3-5 From the beginning of the school term after their third birthday, children are entitled to 15 hours per week government-funded Nursery education for 38 weeks per year (ie school term times). We currently have two Nursery Classes offering places for 3-5 year olds. We will try to accommodate parental choice subject to availability of places. Parents of children accessing their entitlement to 15 hours can also request additional sessions, including lunch or extra main sessions. The school will try to respond to these requests, subject to financial viability and availability of places. These additional sessions must be paid for or funded. Please talk to the staff for more information about this. Due to lack of demand we do not currently offer early morning or late afternoon care, however we do review this regularly so if this is something you would like, please ask at reception. Up-to-date fees can be obtained from the Reception on 331370. The Local Authority offers all children a full-time place from September of the school year in which they are 5. Almost all children leave McMillan to start at a Foundation Stage or in a Reception Class at Primary School in the July before their fifth birthday. If parents cannot find an appropriate school place, some children may return to the Nursery School until they find a place. Some parents may choose for their child to remain at Nursery School for all or part of this full-time year at the Nursery School. Please talk to the staff if you would like to discuss this. Parents must apply for a place to the Primary School of their choice as early as possible, as local schools are often oversubscribed.
Admissions 2-3 year places will be offered to parents who have made an application as soon as spaces become available. The Nursery School reviews spaces available each term and offers places to children from the waiting list for the following term. Eligible children may be admitted at short notice subject to availability of places. PLEASE NOTE: There is a legal limit on the number of places we can offer. We may not be able to offer places to all the children who have applied. If we cannot offer places to 3-5 year olds entitled to funding immediately, we will attempt to do so as soon as places become available. In the meantime we may be able to direct parents to other local settings where they can access a funded place. Please do not ask the classroom staff if your child will be offered a place – they are unable to provide this information. Decisions on admissions are the responsibility of the Head Teacher and the Governors and subject to the agreed Admissions Policy (available online or on request) All places will be offered in writing directly to parents/carers.
