______Physical Capabilities and Expectations

An Assessor’s job is both physically and emotionally demanding. Assessors on an assessment visit can expect to work long hours with few breaks. Regional Assessors must be able to sit comfortably on the floor and/or at child eye level for at least one hour. Assessors may be required to walk up and downstairs throughout a program facility and in some instances up to one half mile as part of the assessment visit.

Assessors are expected to maintain a courteous and pleasant demeanor and abide to the NAEYC Code of Ethics at all times.

Qualified applicants are defined as meeting all job requirements and must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. ______

Essential Functions

Job Duties 1) Scheduling and conducting 10 site visits per Candidacy cohort 2) Administrative paperwork and communication with Academy 3) Financial Reporting

Physical Requirements 1) Ability to sit on floor or at child eye level for at least one hour 2) Walking up and down stairs and up to one half mile

Travel Requirements 1) Traveling via air, rail, and car 2) Overnight stays are expected 3) Out of town trips generally requiring two or more days at a time 4) Must have valid driver’s license

In addition to long on-site assessment hours, Regional Assessors are responsible for visit scheduling, travel arrangements, travel time and on-going communication with the Academy which can require a significant amount of time. ______Availability

A conflict of interest is defined as any relationship between an assessor and a program which could interfere or be perceived to interfere with the assessors ability to exercise objectivity in the accreditation process. Assessors will be required to recuse themselves from conducting assessment visits to any program in which an assessor: Is/was employed by the institution that is seeking or already holds NAEYC Accreditation, or has a close relative (spouse, parent, child) who is so employed, is or has been, a consultant to or evaluator of the program or has a close relative who is, or has been, such a consultant or evaluator, is or has been on the programs’ Board of Directors, or has a close relative who is, or had been, such a director, has a monetary or personal interest in the outcome of the program’s accreditation decision, has a close personal relationship with an individual or individuals involved in the program or has had or does have a relationship that might compromise the objectivity and/or reliability of the accreditation process.
