FACT SHEET SAINT PAUL FORD SITE for Additional Project Information and Monthly Project

FACT SHEET – SAINT PAUL FORD SITE For additional project information and monthly project updates, visit www.stpaul.gov/ford

 The former Twin Cities Assembly Plant, which closed in December 2011 after 86 years of operation, is located on an 150-acre site on the east bank of the Mississippi River in the Highland Park neighborhood of Saint Paul.

 Building demolition will begin on June 10, 2013 and will continue through 2014. Since completion is dependent on many factors, including weather, an exact completion date is not available.

o Buildings now are mostly cleared of equipment which was shipped to other Ford sites for reuse or recycled as scrap metal and most utilities have been disconnected, except what is required to support construction trailers, security, and fire suppression.

o Removal of asbestos and other regulated materials has been completed for the buildings that will be demolished. The abatement process continues for adjacent buildings.

o The goal of demolition, which will start with the Paint building at the eastern part of the site and progress toward the Main Assembly Building along Mississippi River Blvd., is to maximize the percentage of recyclable materials.

 The site will undergo weekly inspections to ensure that decommissioning meets all city, county and state standards for the building demolition, handling of regulated materials, and management of noise, dust, erosion, and water runoff. Screening material will be affixed to the site’s perimeter fencing to help control dust and noise. If you have demolition issues or concerns, contact the Ford demolition hotline at 651-699-1321.

 The city’s Planning and Economic Development Department has conducted numerous studies to prepare for Ford’s future marketing of the site in 2015. The goal is for a vibrant mixed-use site that uses best practices in sustainable and urban design to increase efficiency and performance, reduce traffic impacts, encourage walking, biking and transit, and provide connections to the community and the Mississippi River valley. Studies include:

o Fiscal Impact Model and Analysis of the Five Scenarios (2008) o Sustainable Stormwater Feasibility Report for the Ford Plant Site (2009) o Roadmap to Sustainability for the Saint Paul Ford Site (2011) o Ford Site Open Space Guidelines (2011) o Zoning options for redevelopment (underway) Future reports include: o Evaluation of the 5-mile Canadian Pacific rail spur from the site o Alternative Urban Areawide Review (2015) o Zoning and Master Plan (2016-17)
