Editorially revised 04-22-10 In response to program assessment and graduate data, the faculty determined a separate lab associated with the upper extremity orthopedic evaluation course (ATEP 3810) was warranted. The revised course also includes a name change that more accurately describes the content of the course; as well as revised didactic content that facilitates this course to have a stand-alone lab (ATEP 3811).

6. Course description exactly as it should appear in the next catalog: ATEP 3810. Orthopedic Evaluation of the Trunk and Upper Extremity (3) (F) 3 lecture hours per week. P: ATEP 2810, 2811; P/C: BIOL 2130, 2140 or 2150; EXSS 2850; C: ATEP 3811. In-depth study of pathomechanics or sports-related injury to trunk and upper extremity.

Description: In-depth study of pathomechanics or sports-related injury to trunk and upper extremity. Course Objectives: By the course completion, the student will be able to:

1. Discuss common acute pathologies of the neck, trunk and upper limb including mechanism of injury, signs and symptoms, and treatment of such injuries. 2. Discuss common chronic pathologies of the neck, trunk and upper limb including mechanism of injury, signs and symptoms, and treatment of such injuries. 3. Determine the criteria for removal of football equipment following a cervical spine injury. 4. Distinguish the types of environmental emergencies their associated NATA Position Stands. 5. Recall the biomechanics of a normal and abnormal throwing mechanics and know the repercussions of an abnormal throwing pattern to an active individual. 6. Differentiate the various concussion assessment tools and return to play criteria. 7. Differentiate the mechanism of injuries and treatment for mild versus life threatening injuries to the thorax and trunk
