PARKDALE COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTRE is seeking a
Director of Population Health & Community Engagement (1.0 FTE) Maternity Leave (June 29th, 2015-September 3rd, 2016)
Parkdale Community Health Centre (PCHC) is a fully accredited, publicly-funded health service provider that delivers primary health care, counselling and health promotion programs and services. Working within a social determinants of health framework, we also engage in community development and advocacy activities aimed at improving the health of marginalized communities that traditionally encounter barriers to high quality health care services,
We are currently seeking a Director of Population Health & Community Engagement to play a key role in the overall management of the Centre. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, self- reflexive leader who will provide leadership to the planning and delivery of the Health Centre’s health promotion, harm reduction, community engagement and Women’s Connection programs. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of the challenges involved in working with marginalized or vulnerable populations and will bring a mature, creative and solution- focused approach to addressing those challenges.
The Director of Population Health & Community Engagement is responsible for multiple programs and teams, working out of two different locations. The role requires considerable skill in relationship building, including the ability to develop and foster partnerships and collaborate effectively with community groups, agencies and other stakeholders. The Director will also participate on the senior leadership team and may be called on, from time to time, to step into the role of Acting Executive Director.
We invite applications from candidates with the following credentials, knowledge, skills and experience: Masters degree in health promotion, social work, health administration or other relevant discipline; or combination of an undergraduate degree with extensive, progressive management experience Minimum of five years senior management experience with progressive responsibility in a community health or social service setting; experience managing teams at multiple locations is an asset Thorough knowledge of and experience applying health promotion principles and processes, including social determinants of health to community needs assessment, program development, implementation, and evaluation Experience working with evidence-based interventions and harm reduction principles and strategies, with complex and marginalized populations e.g. people who are homeless, street involved, sex workers, and/or with mental health and addictions challenges, LGBT*Q Strong supervisory skills, including the ability to mentor, coach and inspire multiple teams of professionals, students and volunteers Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to act as a liaison between the Centre and its clients and community partners Excellent communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression principles, and experience applying these with diverse staff teams and marginalized or vulnerable client groups Strong commitment to and experience with appropriate advocacy approaches and methods Experience and demonstrated success in proposal writing, budget preparation and management Knowledge and experience in effective management of crisis situations Ability to collect and analyze data for decision making and quality improvement Experience managing in a unionized environment
