PRESS RELEASE 56TH GENOA BOAT SHOW - SEMPTEMBER 20TH TO 25TH, 2016
OUR BACKGROUND The Italian pleasure-boat market is growing, the shipyards are relocating to Genoa. The English shipyards first, but it is not just them. This proves that Italy and the Ligurian capital are still the place to be for those who wish to be part of the high-level yachting market.
Market data show a 17.1% increase in the 2015 turnover in comparison with 2014: a definitely better figure than the cautious growth projections of the Ufficio Studi UCINA - Confindustria Nautica, which last spring had estimated a 12% increase.
The analysis by Fondazione Edison proves this positive trend, its vice president is Professor Marco Fortis, economic adviser to Palazzo Chigi and, as of this year, the scientific partner in the annual report “Yachting in Figures”, the statistical compendium that UCINA Confindustria Nautica has issued for over 20 years, and supplier of data to the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport since 2014. Among the most significant data showed by the study is the important indicator on foreign trade: Italy is world leader, and ranks first as for the export of yachts with inboard engines in the year 2015 with a share of 23.7%, then come the Netherlands (19.6%) and Germany (15.9%). Italy also ranks first in the shipbuilding industries with a 16.3% share of exports (the Yachting in Figures 2016 issue will be officially presented at the Show on September 22nd at midday).
The Genoa Boat Show tells 56 years of history of the yachting industry and confirms it is the driving force for development in the sector, its positive effect is also highlighted by the Assilea data – that can be read in the new Yachting in Figures issue – that show a 50% increase in the contracts signed at the end of the 2015 Show.
THE BOAT SHOW AMD ITS INNOVATIONS Genoa is still one of the world showcases for the yachting sector. The Show is an important event at the international level and hosts more than 800 exhibitors, 1000 boats in an area of 180,000 m², 100,000 m² of which are in the water, making it possible to moor most of the boats on show and so allowing visitors to try them out on the water.
Here is the latest news from the 56th edition of the Boat Show: The show will be hosting the “beauties afloat since 1962” event, and there will be some truly fine vessels with the two flagships, the 47 m motoryacht Wider 150 – Genesi and the 24 m sailing yacht Advanced A80, designed by the American naval architects John Reichel and Jim Pugh and the Italian yacht designers Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino of Nauta Yachts: she has high performance and plenty of space. Among the mega yachts, keenly awaited are the Permare group Amer 100 Quad, the Fipa Group yard new AB 100 and the Montecarlo Yachts MonteCarlo 80, the Canados 105 and the 33.6 m motoryacht Sanlorenzo SD112 made of composite material with a semi-displacement hull.

Good news from the multihull sector, which will be under the spotlight in the dedicated Hub at the centre of the Nuova Darsena for the second year running. Among them, the Bali 4.0, the smallest catamaran in the Bali range distributed by Adria Ship, together with market leaders such as Fountaine Pajot, Lagoon and Nautitech.
OUR INTERNATIONAL PASSION The Genoa Boat Show confirms it is a window on the world. One of the main objectives of UCINA in 2016 is, in fact, internationalisation. Public authorities, the Ministry for Economic Development and ICE Agenzia are the main actors supporting the many initiatives, such as the confirmation and development of the Operators and Foreign Press Mission at the Genoa Boat Show, thanks to which the boatyard design offices, purchasing offices, buyers, international distributors and brokers will actively participate in the event.
The presence, for the first time in Italy, of 15 independent brokers from the Florida Yacht Broker Association, a historic American association with more than 1200 members, is of the greatest importance: they sell yachts in one of the world’s most active markets.
ICE offices throughout the world and international specialist press are at the forefront to contact new operators. We expect 120 journalists and professional operators from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Croatia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Israel, Malta, Middle East (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Abu Dhabi), Norway, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, UK and USA.
THE FORUM UCINA CONFERENCES UCINA Confindustria Nautica’s experience and know how are always at your disposal. SPORT EVENTS The 56th Genoa Boat Show (20th to 25th September) will also be focused on water sports. This important choice has been made by the organizers so to give the public the opportunity to fully experience the sea and not just admire the boats on display. One of the events is the M32 Mediterranean Series, the exceptional catamaran regatta. This event is dedicated to the brave and competitive hearts and will enrich the most important boat show of the Mediterranean area with the opportunity of flying over the water. The section dedicated to sailing is new and located in the Sailing World area. There is also a section for boats dedicated to disabled people, where the Hansa Sailing boats are also on display. This section has been developed for those people who would like to sail, but it is too difficult, or even impossible, for them to do so.
The Boat Show can thus be experienced in many different ways and everyone is welcomed: adults and children, experts, enthusiasts and novices. People can participate in competitive and demonstrative educational activities, according to their abilities and skills, in the two wet docks or in the comfortable 3x25 m inflatable pool, where the water is just 30 cm deep. An inflatable pitch will also be positioned in the area. ISA instructors will be available for everyone who wishes to take part in the activities, the safety equipment will be also available free of charge.
The following races will be organized: Sup, Windsurf, Wakeboard, Flyboard, mini Sup Polo and Kayak Polo tournaments, and acrobatic Free Style. The beginners and fainthearted will be able to experience water sports thanks to Sup, Sup Yoga, Sup Polo, Pedals Sup, Surf, Windsurf, Jetsurf, Kayak and more to enjoy the day and feel good. At the heart of the exhibition area, a real M32 village will be built. It will be a strategic meeting point for athletes, sponsors and enthusiasts. It will be located along one of the main roads going through the Show, close to the Eataly restaurant and the Teatro del Mare. In this area, the public will also be able to admire the M32 catamaran, and enjoy its beauty, appeal and the on board technology. M32 and I Saloni Nautici will also organize a prize competition: the visitors can register at the info points, to participate in the draw of Hot Seats and free water ski classes with Preskige (technical partner of Sailing Series).
We are again collaborating with the main associations working in this sector, e.g. Federazione Italiana Vela and Lega Navale Italiana. The Navigar m’è dolce campaign has been confirmed again and it is its 12th year: UCINA supports this campaign at the Italian level to disseminate the knowledge of the sea and the nautical sector.
SPORT FISHING In 2016 one of the new protagonists of the Boat Show is sport fishing. An entirely new world that needs to be fully explored and discovered. There are over 1,250,000 anglers in Italy!
There are many workshops organized together with TheO’ and Garmin Marine and Friday 23rd of September will be dedicated to the world of fishing: the place to be is the Teatro del Mare. At 1pm, at the Teatro del Mare, the crews of the Trofeo The O’ will be presented to the public. This is a sport fishing event, the boat will leave on Saturday 24th of September from the Boat Show area. At 2pm, a workshop on Catch&Release will be organized by TheO’ and will be held by Sandro Onofaro and Riccardo Tamburini. At 4pm, on the mezzanine floor in the B Pavilion, there will be the launch of the Trofeo TheO’.
At 3pm, thanks to the precious collaboration of the Garmin Fishing Academy - which organizes seminars, workshops and meetings with the fishermen during the Boat Show - the main fishing techniques will be explained to the public (Drifting, Deep fishing, Troll line, Vertical Jigging, Spinning and Bass Fishing), as well as the most suitable tools and equipment to be used to fish. There will be many guests who will interact with the public. This event will be held by Andrea Napoli, Garmin Italia Product Manager, and Antonello Salvi, Fishing World Champion. Antonio Moscato, President of IMD Boats, Mirco Eusebi, Coach of the Italian fishing team and Luca Bonfanti, IGFA representative for Italy, will also take part into the event. The Garmin Fishing Team participates into the most important fishing competitions, and it is also a R&D laboratory where the Garmin Marine solutions are tested and the real needs of fishermen are taken into consideration. Thanks to its Academy events, it decided to disseminate the knowledge of its experts in an educational and practical way: in Genoa the experts will tell everyone who is interested, fishing tricks and secrets.
On Friday, 23rd of September sport fishing will be the main topic of Melog, the radio show of Gianluca Nicoletti on air on Radio24, Mondays to Fridays at 12.10pm.
On Saturday, September 24th, the Trofeo TheO’ is the main event. This is the first phase of the TheO’ project, which is inaugurated here and the Genoa Boat Show is part of it. On this day, the teams participating in the project, will spend 8 hours at sea. They will leave at 6am from the Boat Show area. This is the very first time a fishing competition is organized at the Genoa Boat Show. There are already more than 30 teams participating in the competition, which is open to everyone, and they will compete to find the king of the Mediterranean: the precious bluefin tuna. Registration to participate close on September 20th, please visit www.the-o.it to register. TheO’ is not just a competition, entertainment or an exciting event. Sandro Onofaro has always supported the Operation Smile through his fishing competitions. This a humanitarian foundation dedicated to restore children’s smiles if they were born with face deformities. The collaboration between Sandro Onofaro and Operation Smile becomes stronger and stronger thanks to the TheO’ project. The secondary events connected to the international competitions will also contribute to Operation Smile, whose team takes part in almost all competitions. This team is led by Domenico Scopelliti, maxillo-facial surgeon and scientific president of the Foundation. In Genoa the TheO’ fund raising activity is supported by the Rotari Milano Club San Babila.
During the Boat Show, at the TheO’ area, the Pesca Tv team - Sky channel 236, and the Chef Marco Valerio Alessandrini will meet the public. The public will also discover everything new as far as fishing equipment and tools and the sea are concerned.
OUR PARTNERS Excellence attracts excellence: the best of yachting together with the best of Italian gastronomy thanks to the renewed partnership with Eataly, which will look after the entire catering network at the Show: the collaboration is centred at the Food Court again, but there will also be several street food corners in strategic locations to offer visitors the best of Italian street food.
The partnership with Petit Bateau has been confirmed. The famous children’s clothing and underwear brand will take part into the Genoa Boat Show for the second year running. A shared love for the sea, a passion for the most exclusive yachts and a vocation for excellence reconfirm Petit Bateau as an ideal partner for this event, which takes into special consideration the social aspects again: at the Boat Show opening evening on Tuesday, September 20th, Petit Bateau will be the technical partner in the charity fund- raising event for the Giannina Gaslini Hospital in Genoa. Petit Bateau, which has always been committed to helping children, will be the spokesman and supporter of this solidarity competition.
This will be the Show’s third edition, conversely, for VisionOttica, Vision Group S.p.A.’s leading brand, with 260 optical centres all over Italy - for people who really want to see things clearly! From 20 to 25 September, a dedicated stand will welcome anyone looking for advice on technical but also fashionable sunglasses frames. Worth mentioning is also the SOS – Servizio Occhiali Sicuri project (which could perhaps be rendered as ‘Saving (Y)Our Sunglasses’), offering purchasers a special warranty against, for instance, breakage or loss.
As mentioned, there will be new partners too. Namely, this will be IBL Banca’s first presence at the Boat Show, where the Bank will be presenting its entire product range - from personal loans to deposit accounts, all the way to insurance policies, for boats too. Boat Show visitors will find a special team at the stand, ready to provide information, propose solutions, and clarify any possible doubts, plus a real treat for sea dogs with a passion for technology: a special contest with a Mac Book Air to be won.
Another important ‘première’ at the Show will be that of Lavazza, the historic Italian manufacturer of coffee products since 1895. During the Boat Show, Lavazza will offer the opportunity to taste Prontissimo! - its first Premium instant coffee - at its stand.
Ethimo’s world-class outdoor furniture will also make its debut at the Show this year. This 100% Italian brand will fit out UCINA’s impressive 400 square-metre lounge and Eataly’s Welcome Area.
First time at Genoa Boat Show for Subito.it too, which owns the ‘Subito’ digital platform, where every day millions of users can sell and purchase items from almost 40 different product categories, including in the boating sector, which makes this company’s presence in Genoa particularly important.
In its turn, GiPlanet S.p.A. - a leader in exhibition design & manufacture and temporary architecture solutions - has once more confirmed its involvement as technical partner of the Boat Show. Among other things, this year GiPlanet has taken care of the stands in all the quays next to the boats display and of the evocative Red Wall that welcomes visitors at the entrance and then leads them to the very heart of the Boat Show.
