Ladybugs and Bumblebees Education Station, LLC

Thank you for choosing Ladybugs and Bumblebees. Allowing us to care for your child is an enormous trust which we take very seriously. Rest assured that your child will be cared for, loved, and will be taught in a developmentally appropriate manner. As your child’s teachers/caregivers we will be flexible and allow your child to dictate their schedule for each day. Each child is unique and each child’s needs are unique. We will strive to provide them with the best learning environment that we possibly can!

Rest assured that all regulations for in-home day cares will be followed. In fact, we will be following State Regulations for Licensed Centers as much as possible in a home setting.

A little bit of background information on Ms. Janet (the owner) and my goals:

 I have a college degree with a major in pre-med biology  and my CDA (Child Development Associate) along with many in-service training hours and continuing education credits in the early childhood field. I have much experience working with children of all ages. I am a proud Aunt of 10 nieces and nephews and I love every minute of it!

 I worked in a State Licensed Day Care Center for nine years – 5 in Administration and 4 in Teaching/Supervising an Infant Class of 8-15 babies! I cared for and taught over 75 Infants and Toddlers over these years of teaching Infants. I have an Alumni Book if you would like to see some smiling faces! 

 I have directed of a State Licensed Child Care Facility and a Registered Ministry.

 I love watching little ones experience new things. The looks on their faces are often priceless. They get so excited about projects, new toys, new experiences, etc.

 My desire as a teacher and administrator is to provide each child with a unique and exciting educational experience. Please rest assured that every project is carefully supervised and planned out. Every material used is appropriate and non-toxic.

Ladybugs and Bumblebees students participate in a variety of activities that include (but are not limited to) dress up play, texture experiences, body & finger painting, science experiments and other “foundation” building experiences that will prepare them for their grade school years.

If you at any time have any concerns regarding anything – please feel free to speak with me. I will accommodate your requests as fully as I am able.

Thanks again for entrusting us with the care of your little one. We are very excited to get to know them and watch them grow! We promise to treat them as our own while you are away and then give them back to you at the end of your day!

Sincerely,

Ms. Janet (Kissinger) Table of Contents

.Child’s Personal Information & Communication between Parents and Staff

You will be required to fill out an information page about your child’s personality, sleeping habits, eating habits, etc. This is necessary so that we can adequately care for and educate your child. Each day you will receive a daily sheet for your child that will tell you: 1) what your child ate and how much, 2) when and how long your child napped, 3) if applicable when your child’s diaper was changed and what was in that diaper , 4) what activities your child participated in that day, 5) what mood your child was in and what their behavior was like, 6) any “homework”, and 7) any supplies your child may need. We will also orally fill you in on any pertinent information or interesting things that happened in your child’s life at school for the day. Since our daily communication is like a mini-conference, an annual family conference will be scheduled in the fall of each year only or as requested by staff or parents. Visitors are welcome at any time. At any time, please feel free to share any information about your child or family situation that will help us better care for and understand your child and/or any behavioral changes that may occur. If you need to share specific information, such as medication dispensation times, etc., please send a written note – this will help to avoid miscommunication. You will be notified if your child has specific issues that need your attention. Every effort will be made to help your child with any behavioral issues or concerns. Your consistency and input are very vital to your child’s success. Occasionally an outside source will need to be contacted for additional help. Your permission is needed for your child to be evaluated by any outside source such as First Steps. As always you and your child’s personal information will be kept confidential and used only for the purposes of the care of your child through Ladybugs and Bumblebees. If you have a custody agreement with your child’s other parent then we will need to have a copy of it on file. We cannot stop a parent from removing their child without a court order.

The following symptoms require isolation and removal from childcare: Temperature of at least 100 degrees Fahrenheit, diarrhea (3 or more in 24 hour period), severe coughing, difficult or rapid breathing, yellowish skin or eyes, redness of eye or eye discharge, matted eyelashes, untreated infected skin patches, unusual spots or rashes, unusually dark urine or gray or white stool, stiff neck with elevated temperature, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and vomiting more than one time. If a child is ill they must remain out of day care until they remain symptom free for 24 hours without medication. If emergency medical attention is required, the staff will call 911 and the child will be transported to a local hospital. You will be contacted as soon as possible in an emergency situation. Medications and Preventatives Policy:

A doctor’s note with signature is required for all over-the-counter medications. Prescriptions may be brought in the original prescription bottle with the current prescription label. Preventatives may be signed for by Parents. Examples of preventatives are sunscreen, lotion, diaper wipes, etc. The only diaper ointment that can be used without a doctor’s note is A&D Ointment – however, we must have a parent’s signature.

You are required to write down the name of the medication you want your child to be given, how much, how often, and then sign the note. If the medication is a prescription some pharmacies will split your prescription in half – giving you two labeled containers – one for home and on that can be left at school. Staff Requirements To ensure the safety of your child and to meet and/or exceed State Requirements every staff member of Ladybugs and Bumblebees must have First Aid Training, yearly Universal Precautions Training, yearly CPR training, have a Negative Drug Screen, a Yearly TB test, a yearly Central Registry Check, and a yearly State Criminal History Check plus provide documentation of education and attend at least 12 hours of in-service trainings in early childhood education. All staff members are required to report any criminal convictions immediately to administration.

~ 4 ~ Alcohol, Drugs, and Tobacco Policy The use of ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, OR ANY POTENTIALLY TOXIC SUBSTANCE (used for purposes other than those intended by the manufacturer) in this facility when children are present or during business hours, which are 6:30 a.m. to midnight. is strictly prohibited. Therefore, parents, staff, and family members present must dispose of tobacco products in an appropriate receptacle prior to entering the parking lot of this facility. Any person failing to comply with the policy will be forfeiting their child’s spot at the facility or their job (whichever applies). All child care staff, volunteers, and family members present in the facility will refrain from using or possessing illegal substances while providing care to children and during hours of operation. Any person suspected of non-compliance with this policy will be immediately terminated from employment or be required to leave the premises (whichever applies). All staff must pass a drug screen before beginning employment. Any person who appears intoxicated or otherwise impaired, and who arrives to pick up a child or children from these premises, will be asked to call someone else who is capable of providing safe transport. Non-compliance with the policy will result in our contacting the appropriate authorities for assistance. Thank you for your cooperation. Accident, Incident, and Discipline Policy Every effort will be made to prevent accidents from happening but unfortunately accidents happen. In case of an emergency, every effort will be made to contact a parent or escort as soon as possible. Accident Reports will be filled out for any injury and a state form will be filled out and filed for any accident that requires medical treatment. Incident reports will be filled out for any child causing harm to another or behaving inappropriately. Accident and Incident Reports will be required to be signed by a parent or guardian and will be kept in your child’s file. Confidentiality is a must and we will not reveal who hurt who or who said what and so on – sorry, I know that it is natural to want to know but it is important for us to all work together and each child deserves the same love and respect regardless of behavior. Please help us teach your child good social skills. We will not allow hitting, biting, pinching, etc. for any reason! We will not allow retaliatory actions, etc. Your rules at home are your business but in a group setting it is imperative that each family be aware of what is expected and help us by reminding and teaching each child appropriate behavior and language. If behavioral problems arise a log will be kept and conferences will be held to discuss what measures can be taken to help your child learn to change their behavior or use appropriate language. If we cannot remedy the situation on our own we may ask for you to allow “First Steps” or another agency that provides help and support for children and their parents to come and evaluate your child. We expect cooperation and honesty from you as parents. Change cannot occur unless an honest, open relationship between caregiver and parent exists and unconditional love and respect is given to each child regardless of their behavior or personality. It is important as well that children learn to respect themselves, others, and property. Intentional destruction of facility property will not be tolerated. Normal wear and tear is to be expected but if your child is intentionally destructive you will be asked to replace or bear the cost of repair of the destroyed item. There is no spanking or other form of corporal punishment allowed at Ladybugs and Bumblebees by staff or parents ~ if you are going to spank your child you must remove them from the premises. Please refrain from yelling at your child on the premises as well. Also, no profane or foul language please. Ladybugs and Bumblebees success depends upon your cooperation ~ please help us succeed! Emergencies If a child is injured and needs immediate attention, the staff will call 911. A staff member will accompany your child for their emergency treatment and will take your child’s records with them. A parent will be called immediately and the staff person will remain with your child until your arrival. An accident/injury report will be completed and given to a parent on the day of the accident/injury and be kept on file for one year. In the event of an emergency, every effort will be made to contact parents first then if unable to reach the parents we will contact those listed on each child’s escort list. Emergency evacuation plans are posted by the Front Door and by the Rear Door. Fire Drills are practiced at least monthly and our First Aid Kits are fully stocked and up-to-date. Your child’s safety is very important to us. Please make sure that we always have accurate phone numbers and addresses for you and for all of those listed on your child’s escort list. In case of the illness of your child care provider, a substitute teacher will be provided for the time the provider is ill. In case of serious injury of your provider, a substitute teacher will run the classroom until, the severity of the injury can be assessed and further action can be taken such as a new teacher can be hired into the position until, and if, your provider is able to come back to work. In the case of the death of your provider, a new teacher will be put in place to take over the classroom. A substitute will be provided until, a replacement can be found for your provider. Emergency Back Up Plans In the event that Ms. Janet should become ill, or if she or any member of her household contracts a contagious disease, or if an emergency prohibits her from taking care of your child you will receive a phone call from Ms. Amanda or “Grandma” explaining the situation. At that time you will receive instructions on when and where to pick up your child if necessary. Ms. Amanda or “Grandma” will be substitutes as needed and have all the appropriate qualifications, requirements, etc. on file. Our back up plan for care is as follows: if needed appropriate emergency personnel will be contacted, followed by parents. Specific instructions will be given regarding the situation and where the children will be located during the emergency if they need to be moved. LBES back up plan for care is located at Janet’s sisters, Paula Sam’s, house at phone number (219) 252-4430. LBES asks that you have a back-up plan in place if Ms. Janet is sick* or if your child is sick. It is the parent’s responsibility to find alternative care for their child if the child is not able to attend. * LBES has substitute staff should Ms. Janet become ill. However, if for any reason, the substitute staff is not available you will receive a call the night before and at the latest by 10 p.m. If Ms. Janet is unable to supervise the children for any reason due to an emergency, substitute staff would take her place immediately.

~ 5 ~ Safe Sleep Policy Addendum Any parent of a child 12 months of age and under will be required to sign a safe sleep policy with the following information given. . .

Our written policy is as follows:  All infants will be placed on their backs in safety-approved cribs unless an alternate sleep position is needed for a medical reason and a written note from the infant's health professional is provided. Infants will not sleep on water beds, sofas, soft mattresses or other soft surfaces.  Soft materials such as pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys and loose bedding will not be placed in Infants' sleep environments.  Infants will not share a safety-approved crib with other children.  Infants will remain lightly clothed and comfortable while sleeping.  Supervised "tummy time" will be observed while infant is awake.  No smoking will be allowed in Infants' sleep environment

Since the start of the 1994 national campaign that provided guidelines for parents, health professionals and other caregivers to place infants on their backs to sleep, the number of infants dying of SIDS has decreased by 42%.

Media Release Your contract packet will allow you to select whether or not you wish your child to be included in any media coverage by this facility.

Use of Playground Equipment In your contract packet, you will be required to sign a release for your child to use our equipment. Transportation and Walking Permission Your enrollment packet will offer you the opportunity to allow your child to be transported to field trips, etc. as well as permission to walk to places such as parks and the library. These outings will further enhance your child’s early childhood experience. You will be given notice in advance of field trips. You may also sign a general release of transportation so that your child may go on errands with the director to places such as the post office, grocery store, or to visit a family member. Every safety precaution will be taken and your child will ride in an appropriate child safety restraint or you can choose to use only your car seat. We want you to be as comfortable as possible while we provide your child with experiences that will help them grow and learn as well as learn to enjoy the world around them.

Effective Immediately – If you wish your child to attend Ladybugs and Bumblebees Education Station then you will need to sign for general walking permission AND for permission to walk to the park and other activities within walking distance. If you do not wish to sign for walking permission then you will need to find alternative care for your child. Our kids love to go to the park and right now we are severely limited on the days and times we can go due to one child – for this reason I am REQUIRING parents to allow us walking permission or unfortunately we will be unable to continue care for your child. For those families who do NOT wish their child to be transported by this facility, on the days a field trip is planned and you are unwilling to let your child attend with us then: 1) You MAY be asked to find alternative care for the day or time of the field trip. There will be no discount in tuition. You will be given ample notice to find alternative care if you choose. 2) OR YOU WILL have to pay an additional fee to help cover the payroll for the person who must be brought in to specifically care for your child while we are away (this person must also meet all of the qualifications and have all of the testing of the regular staff which is an additional expense on top of payroll). This option is only available if I can find staff to cover.

Trial Period The first two weeks in the child care program will be an adjustment or trial period. During this time, either the client or the provider may cancel the contract immediately, without written notice. If the contract is cancelled during this two-week trial period, the client will pay a prorated fee. Payment is due for each day unless the contract is cancelled before the day begins.

Advance Payment for Last Two Weeks of Care A deposit of the amount equal to two weeks tuition is required as a deposit. This deposit will pay for the last two weeks of care, even if the provider’s rates are raised later. New families are required to pay this deposit by the end of their third month of care. If this deposit is not paid by its due date then childcare will not be provided until such time as the deposit is paid in full and any fees due are paid in full. If there is a lapse in care due to non-payment, future childcare is subject to the availability of childcare openings – no spots will be held.

Clients who receive a government subsidy for child care and also make a co-payment are required to pay two weeks of co- payments in advance for the last two weeks of child care. If the subsidy program does not pay its share for the last two weeks of care, the client is also responsible for paying the remaining amount.

Termination after the Trial Period The client must give a two-week written notice to end this contract. Payment is due for the notice period whether or not the child is brought to the provider for care during that time. The provider may terminate this contract at will. The provider reserves the right to immediately terminate this contract without notice if the client does not make each payment in full when due.

~ 6 ~ Caring for Children with Special Needs Children with Special Needs are welcome in this program. Every effort will be made to accommodate children with special needs. This is including but not limited to changes in curriculum or adaptations for access or understanding, opening doors to visitors/therapists that assist in the developmental progress of the child, further staff trainings to understand needs/limitations/ways to facilitate learning, and investing extra time on an individual basis as much as able to supplement learning and the educational process.

Furthermore, social interactions will be closely monitored so that no child, regardless of ability/personality/dispositions/special needs etc., is treated with disrespect or made to feel inferior to another child or adult because of these or other differences.

Childcare References Phone numbers are available upon request. ~ 7 ~
