Ms. Young’s Physical Education Syllabus 2015-2016

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This physical education program emphasizes lifelong fitness, building social skills and the development of motor skills through daily participation in multiple sport activities.

Listed below are the units that will be taught: 1st Semester (1) Swim (2) Basketball (3) Soccer (4) Football 2nd Semester (5) Softball (6) Badminton (7) Hockey/Pickle ball (8) Volleyball

Listed below are the fitness (cardio) activities that will be taught: 1. Timed Miles 2. Bleachers 3. Teacher Jogs 4. Pacers 5. Jump rope 6. Circuit Training 7. Sprints

REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH STUDENT: (Purchase at Bookstore and bring receipt to teacher) Combination Lock $5. P.E. T-shirt $5 (Non Bolsa athletic wear is allowed with teacher approval) P.E. Shorts $10 Tennis Shoes and Socks

DAILY ROUTINE: 1) Go to locker room and dress for class, lock up all personal items in big lockers and head back out to your teacher’s roll call numbers. (10 mins) 2) Sit on assigned number for roll call, warm-up and stretch 3) Listen for daily lesson, participate in activity 4) Take 2nd roll call at numbers or wait for teacher’s instruction for dismissal 5) Head back to lockers to change and wait behind PE gate for bell to ring (10 mins)

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO DRESS AND PARTICIPATE EVERYDAY!

CITIZENSHIP AND WORK HABITS (O, S, N, U) Citizenship and work habit marks are earned by students being present to class on time, being dressed in full uniform and showing effort in class on a daily basis. Students are expected to be respectful to others, to school equipment and to school property. Misbehavior or misconduct may result in a lowered citizenship mark as well as a FINE for any damaged equipment.

GRADING SCALE: Students are graded on a point scale and the percentage resulting is their grade. A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = 59 and below

“ROUTINE” (40%) 4 Pts/Day - DRESS AND PARTICIPATION (4 Pts X 5 Days = 20 Pts/Week ) 20 Pts/Wk X 4-5 Wks = 80-100 Points/month (Points differ during each unit depending on non-school days)

“FITNESS” (40%) 2 Days/ Week - FITNESS/AEROBIC ACTIVITIES (2 Days X 10 Points = 20 Pts/Wk) 20 Pts/Wk X 4-5 wks = 80-100 Pts/UNIT (Ipods or music devices are allowed only with headphones on fitness days, all other days phones will be taken by teacher – teacher’s discretion) *PHONE use during class is not allowed

“TESTS/QUIZZES” (20%) Test (Written/Action), FITNESS TESTING (Timed Mile(s), Sit n Reach, Trunk Lift, Push-ups, Sit-ups or any activity that is timed or assessed by teacher (Points Vary by each Teacher) POINT DEDUCTIONS: Non-suits, Non-participation, Absences, Ditching, Referrals, and Misbehavior ABSENCE/ MEDICAL INJURY points can be MADE UP if EXCUSED by the office and/or doctor’s note is received. Make-up points can be earned through: written assignments, extra physical activity during the period or time scheduled with the teacher. (Agreement made between student and teacher.)

NONSUIT POLICY

1st Nonsuit - Warning – Deduction of points 2nd Nonsuit - Teacher Phone Call Home, After School Detention and Deduction of Points 3rd Nonsuit - Saturday School Assigned thru referral and Deduction of Points 4th Nonsuit - Referral to Administrator, Saturday School and Deduction of Points

INJURY AND MEDICAL NOTES (STUDENTS MUST HAVE PERMISSION BY TEACHER TO NOT DRESS OUT EX: WHEEL CHAIR) 1. SICK NOTES FROM PARENT – NOTE MUST HAVE THE FOLLOWING: (1) STUDENTS NAME (2) DATE (3) EXPLANATION (4) PARENT SIGNATURE (5) PHONE # 2. SICK NOTE FROM DOCTOR (REQUIRED FOR SICKNESS MORE THAN 3 DAYS)

POINTS WILL BE LOST FOR NON-PARTICIAPTION, BUT CAN BE MADE UP DURING EXTRA CREDIT ACTIVITIES DURING CLASS OR ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTS GIVEN BY YOUR TEACHER

Swim Unit: (Additional info) 1) Student is required to dress in a bathing suit, bring a towel and participate daily in swimming activities. 2) PE clothes (T-shirt and shorts) are still required to be in their locker on days we do not enter the pool. 3) Notes will be accepted for females on their menstrual cycle, but are still required to dress in PE clothes 4) Doctor/medical notes for students will be accepted, but are still required to dress in PE clothes
