Dear Parents: It is now the time of year for cheerleading tryouts to select the squads for the next school term. We will be having a Competition Team and a Game Team. Being an EMS cheerleader carries a large responsibility. Girls are expected to attend every practice and every game, as well as maintain their grades, behavior and meet all financial obligations.

Tryouts will be held from April 30th through May 5th. The actual judging for Competition will be May 3rd and judging for Game will be May 5th. Prior to this week, girls must submit their application and parental permission. Girls will be ineligible if this paperwork is not returned by April 20, 2012. Next, girls will be screened for grades. They must be passing no less than three academic subjects from the first semester 2011- 2012 in order to participate in tryouts. To cheer next year, they must be passing no less than three academic subjects for the second semester 2011-2012. In addition to grades, students must have an outstanding behavior record with no major offenses documented by their discipline tracker. Team teachers will then fill out evaluation forms, which rank dependability, leadership, attitude, cooperation, courtesy, and character. This will become a component of their actual tryout judging form. In order to attend tryout practices, girls must also have an up-to-date physical on file at the school.

Free sports physicals are being offered the following dates: April 14th at ECHS 8:30 – 10:30 April 14th at SEHS 1:00 – 3:00

Girls will be expected to attend all days of the pre-tryout clinic April 30th through May 2nd from 3:45 to 5:30 P.M. Unexcused absences from tryout practices will result in girls being ineligible to tryout. If a girl tries out Thursday and does not make the team, she may choose to tryout again on Saturday.

Tryouts for Competition will begin at 4:00 P.M. May 3rd. Sixteen cheerleaders will be selected and four alternates will be selected. Final tryout results will be tabulated and posted after 4:00 P.M. on May 4th.

Tryouts for Game will begin at 9:00 A.M. May 5th. Eighteen cheerleaders will be selected. Final tryout results will be tabulated and posted after 4:00 P.M. on May 5th.

Being an EMS cheerleader also carries a large financial obligation for the parents. Please check the attached financial information for each team. Cheerleaders must purchase all of the items listed. There is a possibility that the EMS Boosters and Athletic Department will help defray some of these costs. If this occurs the rate with the actual amount reduced will be available at a later time. Please contact me if there are any questions regarding this matter.

Please review all of the above considerations and requirements with your daughter as you make your final decision regarding cheerleading. No exceptions will be made for anyone on any of the above issues. If you have questions, you may contact either Mrs. Baker or Mrs. Whitten.

Sincerely, Shawn Baker, Cheerleading Coach – [email protected] Katie Whitten, Cheerleading Coach – [email protected]
