Weekly communication on the Sandton policing precinct’s Crime Trends

Sandton Precinct Crime Trends - Period: 2017-04-10 to 2017-04-16

SECTOR 1: (Edenburg; Gallo Manor; Khyber Rock; Rivonia; Sunninghill; Woodlands; Woodmead) Category: Theft out of motor vehicle was the main crime committed in the Sector this week. Times: Times of crimes were mainly between 16:00 to 20:00. Days: Majority of crimes were committed on Thursday. Pertinent Detail: In a business robbery incident that occurred at Rivonia and Wessels Street on 2017-04-13 at about 04:00, the complainant (Security guard) was on duty when he saw an unknown male who pointed at him with a firearm. Another two to three suspects joined and went to the shops and broke one of the shops. The suspects stole valuables and drove off. Investigation continues.

SECTOR 2: (Brecknock Ah; Bryanston; Klevehill Park; Lonehill; Paulshof; Petervale; Rietfontein; River Club) Category: Theft out of motor vehicle was the main crime committed in the Sector this week. Times: Times of crimes were mainly between 16:00 to 20:00. Days: Majority of crimes were committed on Wednesdays. Pertinent Detail: In a house robbery incident which occurred on Thursday at about 15:00, the complainant was inside the house with friends when three black males entered through an open door and pointed at them with firearms. One of the suspects instructed them to lie down while the others searched the house and stole items.

SECTOR 3: Benmore Gardens; Dalecross; Dennehof; Duxberry; Hurlpark; Little Filian; Moodie Hill; Morningside, Morningside Manor; Morningside Ext 40; New Brighton; Parkmore; Sandown; Sandhurst; Strathavon; Sunset Acres) Category: Burglary Residential was the main crime committed in the Sector this week. Times: Times of crimes were mainly between 08:00 to 12:00. Days: Majority of crimes were committed on Tuesday and Sunday. Pertinent Detail: In a business robbery incident that occurred at Morningside on 2017-04-11 at about 21:17, the complainant was doing patrols at the Centre when approached by two black males with a knife. They tried to attack the complainant but another security guard saw what was happening and fired some shots at the suspects. A white Nissan Almera was seen in the Centre with four black males who got out and tried to break into one of the shops. They heard a gunshot and fled the scene. Security gave chase and arrested two suspects. Two more suspects were arrested the following day.

1 SECTOR 4: (Buccleuch; Eastgate; Kelvin; Kelvin View; Kramerville; Marlboro North; Wendywood; Wesco Park) Category: Burglary Business, House Robbery and Burglary Residential were the main crimes committed in the Sector this week. Times: Times of crimes were mainly between 08:00 to 17:30. Days: The incidents were committed on Thursday. Pertinent Detail: In a business robbery incident that occurred at 14th Street, Marlboro on 2017-04-13 at about 09:00, the complainant was at work when approached by a black male who pretended to be a customer. The suspect then pointed at the victim with a firearm and demanded the cash from the safe. The suspect managed to get R193.00 and fled the scene on foot.

SUCCESSES This Week: Four suspects arrested for business robbery. One suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods.
