Job purpose Development of models of transport demand and capacity as part of the transport sector analysis being undertaken for the EPSRC-funded Multi-scale InfraSTRucture systems AnaLytics (MISTRAL) project, under the supervision of Co- Investigators Dr Simon Blainey and Professor John Preston. This will involve developing models of transport infrastructure demand and capacity for the UK, and integrating these with models of other infrastructure sectors. Dissemination of the results from this modelling to academics and industry stakeholders. Engagement with industry partners to facilitate access to existing data and models, and to promote the application of the research in relevant contexts.

Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time 1. Carry out transport modelling research as part of the MISTRAL project, along with other related 75 % research work as required. This will include a significant computer programming element. 2. Regularly disseminate project findings by taking the lead in preparing publication materials for 10 % referred journals, presenting results at conferences, and attending stakeholder engagement events. 3. Liaise and collaborate with researchers at Southampton and other institutions working on the 10 % other modelling elements of MISTRAL. 4. Carry out administrative tasks associated with the MISTRAL project, for example risk assessment 5 % of research activities, organisation of project meetings and documentation.

Internal and external relationships Direct responsibility to Dr Simon Blainey and Prof. John Preston. Collaborative working with other researchers and academics involved in the MISTRAL project at Southampton and partner institutions.

Special Requirements Attend project meetings and workshops at a range of locations within the UK. Attend national and international conferences for the purpose of disseminating research results. Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
