The meeting was called to order at 2:08 p.m. in Thomas Administration, room #117.

1. Minutes from February 12th, 2014 meeting. MSC to approve minutes as written.

2. Committee revisited APM 205 – Policy on Undergraduate Student Academic Advising.

 Janell Morillo provided a document listing the models of advising used in different depart- ments and colleges across campus. She described the various models and the committee dis- cussed these with respect to our own departments and colleges.  Janell reported that they do not expect there to be dramatic changes in the general models used across campus.  The committee discussed APM 205 and the need for the policy to more accurately reflect and support current practices.  The committee decided that the first goal should be to come to a general agreement on the definition of advising used in the policy. For the next meeting, committee members agreed to submit some definitions of advising (academic and career) and we will discuss these at the next meeting.  The next step will be to create recommendations for the policy statement regarding the pur- poses of advising.

3. Marianne Jackson raised an issue raised by a fellow faculty member involving a possible proposal to increase the student activities fee.

 Other committee members provided background on this fee and the student member provid- ed some input from ASI.  At this point, this may be premature and there may not yet be an issue to discuss. Marianne will follow up with relevant people to find out more about this issue.

MSC to adjourn at 2:55 p.m.
