HINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL COACHING VACANCY

Requirements

 Bachelor’s Degree (Minimum)  Minimum of 5 years of high school basketball coaching experience necessary.  Previous varsity coaching experience is preferred.  MIAA Coaching Certification is necessary.  Proven ability to successfully communicate and motivate high school age female student-athletes.

Job Description

- To oversee the entire Hingham High School Girls Basketball Program – Varsity, JV and Freshmen.

- To direct the teaching, technical expertise, conditioning, and performance of the varsity athletic team and to lead, supervise, and assist the assistant coaches in their efforts with teams assigned to them.

-To engage the team in a serious but motivating practice atmosphere. Establishing a sense of pride among the team members is paramount.

- To personally direct the team at all varsity contests and to be present at as many junior varsity and freshmen contests as possible. He/she will also be responsible for the supervision of his/her student-athletes.

- To form a bridge with the Hingham Youth Basketball program. He/She must be a well- known presence with youth basketball via summer camps and the Hingham Gals League.

- To engage the parents of the members of the basketball program in a positive and constructive manner. Excellent communication skills are necessary.

- To monitor the academic progress for all student athletes of his/her team.

- To assist the athletic director and principal in the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.

- To direct, supervise, and evaluate regularly the performance of all assistant coaches. - To work cooperatively with other head athletic coaches in order to operate a well-balanced athletic program.

- To foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.

- To act as a positive role-model for students, coaches and parents.

- To assist the athletic director with schedule development for his/her team.

- To recommend to the athletic director a budget of equipment and supplies needed to conduct the basketball program. In addition, at the end of the season a complete list of collected and stored equipment and supplies must be submitted to the athletic director.

- To assist the athletic director to ensure that lists of all players eligible for athletic contests are prepared and maintained under rules of the MIAA.

- To organize a strategy for encouraging students to try out for his/her team.

- To recommend to the athletic director those students who qualify for a varsity letter or junior varsity/freshman certificate.
