1. Exact description of request:

1 Summary A minor title change is being made to the submajor. Geography 480 was deleted from the core and Geography 250 has been added. Three of the regional courses have been deleted and one has been added. Thirteen possible courses have been added to a new six unit systematic requirement. The elective units for the submajor were reduced from fifteen to six. As part of the social studies broadfield requirement, students are now required to select 9-12 units from two departments for a total of 21 credits, instead of an unspecified number of units from two departments for a total of 20.

2. Relationship to mission and strategic plan of institution, and/or college and department goals and objectives: These changes connect to the departmental goal of ensuring the currency and effectiveness of the curriculum.

3. Rationale: . Changes are designed to create consistency across BSEs; ensure regional courses have an international focus; identify systematic courses, (vs. regional or techniques courses); and update the curriculum to reflect current deletions and additions. . Changes to the social studies broadfield requirements will bring Geography into alignment with other departments. This will ensure a common structure to students’ broadfield social studies preparation regardless of the discipline/content area focus of their major. This has been recommended and approved by the UWW Social Studies Council.

4. Cost Implications: None.
