2nd Year Welding

Class Overview:

Second Year Welding is a course to apply welding skills already learned. Students must have completed Welding I and Welding II to enroll in this class. Students will be expected to design and build projects for the entire year. Any welding maintenance or repair of other projects/equipment is also encouraged. The grading for this course is very strict and any student failing to meet the requirements will be removed.

b.i. 1 Day = 10%

c. Unexcused Absence = 0

d. Excused Absences – Work with Mr. Larsen

d.i. You are responsible for any missed assignments or notes

Grading Grading Scale 1. Daily Participation – 30% - 20pts/Day 100-95 A

3. Exams – Classroom and Shop – 30%

Discipline

1. Warning

** Any name left by a substitute for any negative reason results in one hour detention – no exceptions.

Tardy Policy

1. Unexcused Tardy = +0/20 Daily Points

2. One hour detention for every 3rd tardy

a. Resets Quarterly

Safety

1. Safety in the welding shop is not negotiable; the following rules must be followed at all times.

a. Safety glasses are to be worn at all times – no exceptions

b. Welding PPEs – Performing any type of welding requires the following PPEs – no exceptions.

b.i. Safety Glasses

b.ii. Welding Beanie or Hat

b.iii. Welding Helmet b.iv. Welding Gloves

b.v. Closed Toe Shoes

b.vi. Long Pants – Jeans or Canvas

b.vii. Fire Proof Welding Jacket

2. Consequence for not following the above rules

a. Immediate removal from the shop

a.i. Warning

a.ii. 1st Offense – 30 minutes

a.iii. 2nd Offense – 56 minutes

a.iv. 3rd Offense – One Week

a.v. 4th Offense – Course Failure

3. Common unacceptable excuses used for not having the proper PPEs

a. “I forgot”

b. “No one is working around me”

c. “I was just tack welding”

d. “I do this at home all the time”

Other Info

1. Extra help can be scheduled in advance with Mr. Larsen during his 1st hour prep or before/afterschool.

a. You can show up during any of these times without prior approval but there is no guarantee that I will be available - FYI
