JOB DESCRIPTION

Title of Post: Senior Lecturer in Education (Research)

Grade: Single Pay Spine Grade 8 with the possibility of Grade 9 for candidates meeting the criteria for Reader

Responsible to: Head of Research

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Working as a member of the Research and Innovation Centre to undertake a range of research, doctoral supervision, teaching and other duties to support the development of research across the University. The post- holder will also contribute to other areas of the institution’s portfolio and academic activities as appropriate.

KEY TASKS

In accordance with the post-holder’s qualifications, experience and expertise, and working in collaboration with members of the Research and Innovation Centre and academics across the institution, to:

1. To contribute to the delivery of the EdD, including the design, development and administration of designated modules.

2. To supervise doctoral students (EdD and PhD) and, where appropriate, contribute to other postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, ensuring that appropriate assignments and examinations are set and marked in accordance with validated programme documents and University assessment policies.

3. To monitor student progression and achievement.

4. To provide appropriate support and advice to students.

5. To participate in the promotion of the research degree programmes and the recruitment, selection and admission of students.

6. Engage in research-income generation and externally funded projects, including the establishment of internal and external collaborative work.

7. To facilitate and participate in appropriate training and researcher development activities, including acting as a research mentor.

8. To undertake a high level of research, publication and scholarship in education. 9. To support the Head of Research through the co-ordination of activities and processes to enhance research infrastructure and research culture.

10. To contribute to the processes of annual monitoring, periodic review and inspection at a programme and University level.

11. To participate in external activities through membership of subject and professional associations and networks, and undertake liaison work with other institutions and organisations.

12. To participate in the wider academic and professional life of the University through membership of committees, working groups, relevant research cluster(s), examination boards and through attendance at other events.

13. To undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.

PERFORMANCE MONITORING AND REVIEW

14. To agree objectives and targets with the Line Manager in accordance with University priorities and to participate in the performance review process.

15. To provide written reports on activity as requested.

16. To discharge all relevant health and safety responsibilities.

17. To maintain professional standards in relationships, including non-discriminatory practices.

18. To adopt a client-centred approach and to deal promptly and considerately with members of the public, staff and students.

SENIOR LECTURER IN EDUCATION

Core Supplementary Education/Qualifications A doctorate in education or allied field A teaching qualification in HE / Fellowship and Special Training of the HEA

Qualified Teacher Status Knowledge and Skills Specialist knowledge in Education as an academic discipline.

Specialist knowledge sufficient to support and deliver teaching and supervision up to and including doctoral level in education.

Excellent planning, teaching and assessment skills.

Good IT skills. Experience A record of successful supervision of Experience of teaching and supervision of doctoral students to completion. EdD students

A track record of research publication at an appropriate level, with clear evidence of eligibility for REF 2021.

A record of research or research- related income generation, or participation in externally funded projects.
