SAFE EDWARDS ELEMENTARY LUNCH PROCEDURES

1. Entering Lunchroom a. Students wash hands before entering lunchroom. b. Students line up on tape line, with teacher direction. c. Cold lunch students: * Needing a milk or juice are to stay in the hot lunch line also. * Needing nothing extra are to sit at the tables immediately. d. Students wait their turn at the Lunch Count Area. e. Students will be seated as they go through the line. * If EA gives permission to save seats, students may save one seat. * Student mark the saved seat with their milk or juice on the table next to them. f. Students can only leave their seat with permission of supervisor.

2. Lunch Procedures: Dismissal a. Students are expected to pick up their trash before dismissal from the table. b. Students are dismissed a few at a time (recommended a side at a time). c. Dumping trays and trash: * Cold lunch students dump at the trash can to the west of the tray dumping area. * Hot lunch students line up on the red tape line, and one at a time dump their tray and EDWARDS ELEMENTARY then stack trays (neatly). Lunchroom Supervision

1. Supervisors place three plastic cups on each table. Blue: Noise level is good. Yellow: Noise level is too loud. Red: No talking at the table 2. Supervisors monitor the seating of students. 3. Supervisors help with condiments and student requests. 4. Supervisors dismiss students when lunch time ends. Monitor students dumping trays as possible. 5. Supervisors wipe down tables when a class is finished. Help will be requested from the lunch clerk in wiping tables. EDWARDS ELEMENTARY

PLAYGROUND

Wait for a swing on blacktop. c. No jumping off. 2. Slides a. Feet first. b. One at a time. c. No climbing up. 3. Climbing Equipment a. Take turns. b. Stay off the top of the yellow slide, yellow tube, and climbing bars. 4. Games a. Play tag on grass only. b. Touch football. EDWARDS ELEMENTARY c. Include others. RECESS WEATHER PROCEDURES

1. Temperature Guidelines a. Below 50 degrees, then coats are required. b. Between 50-59 degrees, then long sleeves are required. c. Signs are posted at south primary door, east primary door, west secondary door): Outside – coats Outside – long sleeves Outside Inside d. Recess supervisors have the authority to modify the temperature guidelines depending on the outside conditions. 2. Blacktop only when ground is wet and muddy. 3. Winter Weather a. Students go outdoors for recess unless the temperature/wind chill is 0 degrees or weather does not permit being outdoors (i.e., rain, excessive wind). b. Snow pants/boots MUST be worn to play in the snow or use sled. c. Students without boots must stay on the shoveled blacktop. 4. Students who remain inside must have a valid request from parents or have teacher permission. EDWARDS ELEMENTARY ARRIVAL

1. Keep personal space. RESPECTFUL 2. Grade level line up at RESPECTFUL front entrance. 3. Breakfast students enter RESPONSIBLE from 8:15–8:35 AM. 4. Late students sign in at office RESPONSIBLE and take a Pass to class. School begins at 8:35 AM. 5. Walk. SAFE 6. Hands and feet to self. SAFE EDWARDS ELEMENTARY DISMISSAL

2. Line up. RESPONSIBLE Bus: Numbers on sidewalk. Vehicle Pick Up: Wait at curb.

3. Go straight home. RESPONSIBLE Walkers cross at cross walk. Bike riders walk bike on grounds.

5. Hands and feet to self. SAFE EDWARDS ELEMENTARY DISMISSAL Details 1. School day ends at 3:20 PM (2:05 PM on Wednesdays). a. Students must have a plan for arriving to school and returning home each day. b. Different dismissal arrangements to be completed before school ends at 3:20 PM. c. A note or phone call is expected for a student to go anywhere other than the usual. 2. Walkers leave grounds at close of school. a. Students must go home before coming to play on playground. b. Students cross street only at corner. 3. Bike riders walk bikes on sidewalk on school grounds. a. Helmets are required to ride. b. Students in 3rd through 5th grade have the privilege to ride bikes. 4. Students picked up by parent/guardian, relative, or friend wait at curb. a. Parent/guardian, relative, or friend of family escorts student to vehicle. b. Vehicles proceed slowly and cautiously—patience is vital for safety. 5. Bus riders line up at front sidewalk. a. Grade 4 and 5 students leave out the west doors, and grades K-3 through front doors. b. Bus 1 and 2 line up on main sidewalk, and Bus 3 and 11 line up on the west sidewalk. c. Only get on a school bus when the supervisor and driver indicate you can. d. Follow bus rules. 6. Adult supervision at bus concourse from 3:20 PM until final bus.
