Monday---Day 4 “The Hat” Class will complete the following activities, details given on teacher’s guide pgs. noted 1. Oral Language with Good Afternoon message----teacher’s guide pg. 25C. With the message, also discuss writing the date 3 different ways. After message is complete, reread sentences. Pause between sentences and have students point to the capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and to the period at the end. 2. Sharing Literature with fingerplay, “My Hat”---teacher’s guide pg. 25D. Discuss what a corner is. 3. Phoneme Blending----teacher’s guide pg. 25D 4. Phoneme Isolation---teacher’s guide pg. 25D 5. Word Building (with ActivInspire)---words on teacher’s guide pg. 25E 6. Apply Phonics on paper----words on teacher’s guide pg. 25F 7. High Frequency Words in sentence context---teacher’s guide pg. 25H 8. Words To Remember----cut a piece of paper in 3 parts, write words down, got, up on the 3 parts. Work with partner to read the words, find the words, etc.--- teacher’s guide pg. 25H 9. Discuss story genre: realistic fiction textbook pg. 12 10. Reread and discuss the story, “The Hat” textbook pgs. 12-21 11. Reading Comprehension: Sequence---teacher’s guide pg. 25I and textbook pgs. 26-27 12. Daily Language Practice---teacher’s guide pg. 27A (corrections: capital letter at beginning of sentence, spelling of the word hat) 13. Grammar: Review Complete Sentences: Generate Sentences----teacher’s guide pg. 27B 14. Writing---Descriptive Sentences describing a hat. Students will create their own hat drawing, read and copy the following sentence frame, and complete with one or more words to describe the hat they made. My hat is______. 15. Social Studies Read Aloud: Teacher will read aloud to students and discuss.

Tuesday---Day 5 “The Hat” Class will complete the following activities, details given on teacher’s guide pgs. noted. 1. Oral Language with Good Afternoon Message--- teacher’s guide pg. 27C. With the message, also discuss writing the date 3 different ways. After message is complete, point out that many words that tell about feelings rhyme with the word had. If any have been included in message, point those words out. Also, point out how close together the letters in a word are. Then compare letter spacing within words with the spacing between words. 2. Sharing Literature with Big Book, Sometimes—teacher’s guide pg. 27D Review title, author/illustrator, organize into 2 groups for choral reading, groups take turns repeating alternate lines of the story after teacher. Discuss meanings of why the alligator feels read and blue. 3. Phoneme Isolation---teacher’s guide pg. 27D 4. Segment Words---teacher’s guide pg. 27D 5. Phonograms –ap, -at Rhyming---teacher’s guide pg. 27E 6. High Frequency Words---Use words (down, got, up) in sentences---teacher’s guide pg. 27H 7. Words to Remember Sentence Context---teacher’s guide pg. 27H 8. Review genre of the story, “The Hat”---realistic fiction textbook pg. 12 9. Partner Rereading the story, “The Hat”---textbook pgs. 12-21 10. Daily Language Practice---teacher’s guide pg. 27K (corrections capital letter at sentence beginning, spelling of the word mat) 11. Grammar: Complete Sentences Review---teacher’s guide pg. 27L 12. Writing---Sentences Students will think about how much Pam liked her hat and think of a piece of clothing, pet, or toy that they have that they like that much. They will read and copy the following sentence frame and illustrate something that they have that they like. I like my ______. 13. Social Studies Read Aloud: Teacher will read aloud to students and discuss.

Wednesday---Finish up activities pertaining to “The Hat” Harcourt Reading story Worksheet 13 VC, CVC words---Teacher will place worksheet under the document camera and students will number their paper to 5 and use context clues and picture clues for each sentence to determine which word from a pair of words complete each sentence. Afterward, work will be discussed, corrected, and checked. Worksheet 14 Sequence----Teacher will place worksheet under the document camera and students will observe given pictures for the 2 events and number the pictures in order. Afterward, work will be discussed, corrected and checked. Class will read and discuss Decodable Book 1 stories, “Pat” and “Nan Cat!” Writing---Students can write about a topic of their choice. Social Studies Read Aloud: Teacher will read aloud to students and discuss.

Thursday---Day 1 “Sam and the Bag” Class will complete the following activities, details given on teacher’s guide pgs. noted. 1. Oral Language with Good Afternoon message--- teacher’s guide pg. 28G. With the message, also discuss writing the date 3 different ways. After message is complete, have children point to the periods at the ends of the sentences and ask volunteers to tell why they are there. 2. Sharing Literature with Big Book, Sometimes: Have students identify with being the character, explore antonyms happy and sad. 3. Phoneme Isolation---teacher’s guide pg. 28H 4. Identify Initial Phonemes---teacher’s guide pg. 28H 5. Word Building (short a words) on ActivInspire----words on teacher’s guide pg. 28J 6. Daily Language Practice---teacher’s guide pg. 28M (corrections capital letter at beginning of sentence, spelling of the word down). 7. Grammar: Complete Sentences---practice workbook pg. 18 8. Word Building---teacher’s guide pg. 28Q (use ActivInspire) 6. Dictate Words---Short a words on teacher’s guide pg. 28R 7. Building Background---talk about cats---teacher’s guide pg. 28S 8. Practice Words to Remember---textbook pgs. 28-29, red word oh (arm tap) 9.
