CALL TO ORDER The meeting of February 2nd, 2011 was called to order at 6:05 p.m. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES The meetings of the previous meeting stand approved. REPORT OF THE SPEAKER OF SENATE The BTS is up and running, the southwest route. Talk to Hart’s interns about helping out. Feb 24th- 3:45-5:00 – joint faculty senate meeting. Working on some committees to draft legislation that they will bring to the table. Dr. Hartneck, chair of faculty, will be coming to senate in 2 weeks about the 10-year plan. Welcome new senators from DAAP, CCM, and Business this week. Thanks everybody that helped fill in gaps. Wants everyone to work hard to retain everyone on the body now. There will be one spot open for arts and sciences. Senator Sherman had to resign because of his busy schedule. Hart shows the student government website to the body. Highlights-slide show that will run. Please complete the feedback of the BTS online. REPORT OF THE STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT Last Wednesday, student government outing with GEN-1, seating was hectic. Thank you to everyone who came. More activities with them ahead. If you have not had a chance to meet them, encourages people to. Met with Rick Wiggins, director of facilities, to talk about what facilities does. Happy to say that UC is one of the most efficient facilities across Ohio and the Midwest. Have least amount of employees per budget. Each employee has more land then the rest of the universities. They do a really good job. If any negative talk, please convey otherwise. Update on Governor Caysek initiatives, Marco is launching a new marketing campaign. Creative fliers being put together. Going to the governor’s office Feb 28 th, bringing media. To say hey we are standing up for higher education funding. Very excited about this. Woke up to an article that had a few missed quotes, received some angry emails. Went to the deans meeting today. Introduced topic and let them know that is not the message that he wants to get across. Wants to have open discussions and forums so student input is happening. Talk to them about how they interact with the tribunals. Working with the center for institutional research. When they go back to the deans, they will have research and in depth background. Went to a Kuampa talent show. Dance performances, monologue, etc. Ball this Saturday, a few are going to. Tomorrow pledge at noon at AARAC. Kroger is closing down for renovations for a couple months. Working to try and get some alternatives to other locations. Can’t reveal anything yet. Negotiations need to be made. Trustee Quinn and Smith will be traveling to Ohio State to talk about initiatives and higher education funding. Opening up a Subway on East campus. REPORT OF THE STUDENT BODY VICE-PRESIDENT Cory Sims- Rooney apologizes for not being here today, at a reception honoring VP Livingston. On Monday, participated in Enough is Enough, looks to end acts of violence. UC will be pushing this during April 3rd. Student Government and Night Walk Safety Board look to be key partners. Went to several different residence halls to promote senator night. Expect there to be outreach notes. Considering EFC, minimum GPA is required. REPORT OF THE INTERNAL HOLDOVER SENATOR Senator Hertlein could not be here. Sent out invitation to meet with exec. If did not receive email, email him. Looking to follow up on sentiments about retreat. Meeting with Gene Ferera on Friday about the grill bill. Turn in office hours on a weekly basis. Don’t wait till the last minute. Any questions, email him. REPORT OF THE EXTERNAL HOLDOVER SENATOR Had a speaker from keep Cincinnati Beautiful, growing green habits. Volunteer opportunity. Teach little kids about living green. Also PSO is working with UC metro. Looking to start a community garden at DAAP. Putting together a blackboard poll about mass transit. Students for ecological design, working with resident halls and faculty administration. LEAP, fresh local and organic food event. Old Chem this Tuesday. Powership conference is a national conference in Washington DC April 1 st- 4th. Engineers Without Borders, working on project. First German reform church-Re UC. UC sustainability pledge is partnering with CDM. June 22-24 Duke Energy Convention center. -Holdover Shannon-Meeting with Tom Myer, Engineers Without borders, tomorrow night. Will be confirming a new disability director. Next week expect a longer report. Would like to talk about retreat. REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF FINANCE A lot of retreat expenses disbursed. In the discretionary line, paid invoice for Blackout t-shirts. Getting a reimbursement from the athletics department, really a 1,000 more. It’s a long process before checks can be submitted. Cash sometime next week. Worked on enactment bill that is on the table for later. EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS Cabinet Member Approval: Director of Disability Services: Zach Johnson Senator Oath of Office: Bhavik Modi, Spencer Bartley, Necia Disse COMMITTEE REPORTS Academic Issues- Anita Todd can’t be here tonight, had her wisdom teeth taken out. Still waiting to here back about the second round of provisions. Senator Hurley- in the process of writing a bill about a texting service. Going to discuss logistics with Nightwalk. Needs a contact for public safety. Promoting undergraduate research. Approached by a student who is looking to start a news record for research. Looking for senate support, funding. Students Rights Interest- thanks to Speaker Hart and Bell. Enactment bill tonight. Brochure-needs to be printed (Lopez). The Black History Month movie is in progress. Wants to play the movie Cry Freedom. Doesn’t want to discuss slavery, but apartheid in Africa. Movie is will be Wednesday, Feb 18 th at 8:00 p.m. Bill will be done next week. Sent a letter to Megabus requesting a UC stop. Promote the movie. Should have flier done soon. Fliers will be in every residence hall and all over campus by the end of this weekend. EFC- have meeting this evening at 9. Going over rules. Made packets. On EFC, please attend. Bill is on the table. Senator Quinn- promoting the book swap, trying to revamp that. Talked to Hart on the phone. Working on a survey for the bearcat meal deal to get research for the stores targeted. Will be done by Friday. Will be meeting with intern and Marcum before next meeting about bearcat meal deal and book swap. Stay after for short meeting. Governmental affairs- focusing on the summit currently. BOARD REPORTS Nightwalk- 100% uptime except last Monday. March 10 th, tentative date for self- defense seminar. Texting while Driving Pledge has been going on. Sign sheet with email. Only emailed if win a prize. Take a sticker. Window alarm initiative kicked off on Monday. Gave a little less than a 100. Will be giving out more this week on Thursday and Friday from 11-1. UFB- groups have been approved. Interaction design association and scholars association were denied. New senator representative, working on that. SAB- 3 registrations. UC board game club. It was tabled. UC yoga students was also tabled due to conflict with CRC. STEM education association was passed. TRIBUNAL REPORTS Allied Health Sciences- meeting tomorrow at 7:00. Senator gravely and her are taking a trip up to Columbus at 8:00 a.m. CCM- dean search is finally underway. Its been a long time since had a permanent dean. Promises to bring bracelets next meeting. Got clearance to put a Nike shoebox in Starbucks. A Little Night music- 2:30 and 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday at 4:00- Jazz. Nursing-dean search is still in progress, have a temporary dean. College is under construction. Having a blood drive tomorrow at Hoxworth Center. Arts and Sciences- nominations on Monday. Kicken it with McMicken. March 28 th, FBI speaker. Meeting February 8th. DAAP-just had third DAAPture the flag, lumberjacks vs. trees. Going to have open mic night and food next quarter. CCH- next meeting January 22nd in Teachers College. COB- meeting was brief. Encourage people to attend speaker at 6:00 p.m. Will be speaking with President Smith about initiative with OM majors. East- had a meeting with the dean this morning. Emergency townhall meeting in Zimmer tomorrow. Dean has interesting plans. Military care package- 20 bins all around the university. For example, donate toothpaste. Date auction is on Friday, February 25th. Last chance to sign up is this Friday. COMMENTS FROM THE GALLERY OLD BUSINESS Student Enactment Bill S.11.E-019 Roll call vote. Bill passes by 26-0-0. NEW BUSINESS Student Senate Enactment Bill S.11-E-020 The money has to be claimed within 4 weeks of the event. -Co-sponsorship-needs to be added. Bill is tabled. Student Senate Enactment Bill S.11-E-021 EFC-Feel education should come first. -Asking 2.5 GPA is required is for EFC. -Senator Clark- thinks 2.5 should be seen across the board not just EFC. President Smith- education first then student government. -Bill is tabled to the body.
